Superrpgman Posted December 11, 2012 So yeah, I beat who I assume was the cyberdemon, and have finished Episode 2. Going into what is the final episode of the original version of Doom. Just thought that I'd ask a few questions here: 1. Are there any particular levels in this episode that people who have never gotten through them before will consider especially challenging? 2. On a side note, I know that there's a code you can use in zdoom that will make it so the levels will have the same amount of enemies as in Ultra Violence, but won't make the enemies as hard at the same time. It'll still make the game harder as I'll still play on Hurt me plenty difficulty, just not as hard. Can anyone tell me what that code is? And yeah, unfortunately I forgot to use it in Episode 2. 3. I usually find at least a few secret areas in each area, but I don't look for all of them. Are there any types of ammo that I should try to conserve? I thought that it would be a smart move to conserve rocket launcher ammo in Episode 2 for example, but it turned out to be pointless as you're given more than enough in the boss level. That covers what I wanted to ask. Thank you for your time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Use Posted December 11, 2012 1: Hmm, maybe Mt. Erebus (e3m6). It's fairly quirky. Pay attention and save your rad suits. 2: No idea. 3: Nah, there's plenty of ammo in the episode. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
EvilNed01 Posted December 11, 2012 The only map to look out for is Unholy Cathedral, which is map number 5. But on the whole, no not really. Episode 3 is not really that much more difficult than Episode 2. There might be a few more Barons around, but that's it. Episode 4, however, that's another matter... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
esselfortium Posted December 11, 2012 Enemies don't behave any differently on Ultra-Violence than they do on Hurt Me Plenty, there are just generally more of them placed in the maps. Nightmare skill makes enemies quicker and respawning, and I'm Too Young To Die makes you take less damage when hurt, but the other skills don't change the actual behavior of enemies at all. So, "playing HMP with UV monsters" is just... playing UV. :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

glenzinho Posted December 12, 2012 Ammo is a bit tight on the first two maps, so shoot straight! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Snakes Posted December 12, 2012 Fist (*AHEM*) the demons on E1M1... it'll pay dividends on the next 2 maps. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted December 12, 2012 Also, E3M6 on higher skill levels made me think that the id guys screwed it up. Hint: they didn't. I thought similarly about Doom 2 MAP15, but same deal actually. They're just less intuitive, not broken. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tristan Posted December 12, 2012 Right well, I'm just gonna say it... The puzzle in E3M7 will REALLY piss you off. I still haven't memorised it yet. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted December 12, 2012 Snakes: You mean e3m1 right? :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Unlike the last level of E2, in E3's, you don't get over-stocked with rockets or cells (not on Ultra-violence difficulty, at least). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

While this is true, there are still 20 rockets in E3M8, which, if I understand it right and with direct hits each time, totals up as a theoretical minimum least 2960 points of damage, and a theoretical maximum of 5760* Admittedly you do need to run far to get all of them, but if you attack the boss only, it is a decent amount, and then you have rockets that will have been carried over from previous levels, as I'm sure this guy is doing. *However, I don't think those values can occur due to the Psuedorandom Number Generator, unless that only affects the BFG Damage (I'm out of my depth here) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shadow Hog Posted December 12, 2012 I assume that figure there accounts for the fact that the Spider Mastermind, to my understanding, is unaffected by blast damage? (Same for the Cyberdemon.) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Darkhero Posted December 13, 2012 mmm I think the SpiderMasterMind is not really dificult to beat. when I defeated some year ago. I reamembered use the Baron of hell and the cacodemons aganst it as a distraction. while shooting him in the back. if you find the secret level on the episode 2 is the beter strategy you can use... well only if you loose all your weapons in another level level :p 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Daiyu_Xiaoxiang Posted December 13, 2012 The maps that seems to be more "challenging" than other maps for newbies are E3M6 and E3M7. The main problem of E3M6 is the lava, but as soon you take care of radiation suit than it's OK. As for E3M7, the teleporters puzzle is a huge problem. It's impossible to take the right teleporter to the correct place for the 1st time or without watching DSDA demo of that map. As for the ammo problem, it depends whether you do UV Max or start from 1st map to final. Let's discuss about E3M8 as an example. For UV Max, just run to the left immediately after arriving outside the court, this may easily leds the monsters to infight with the S.M. But if started from 1st level, then keep the cells, use the BFG against the S.M, 2 shots and he died. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ledillman Posted December 13, 2012 Limbo or E3M7 was very difficult the first time i played it, there are so many places and teleports, the puzzle is something different of the past levels and in ultra violence is very challenging. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

My advice: Use your rad suits wisely. There is plenty of them, but still, use 'em wisely. It is not a very intuitive level, but it is still a really great level. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
