This is a PSX Doom Forever HD project by a russian fan. Since he's love this version of the game very much, he's decided to make the HD remaster for PC sourceports.

I don't know, why the dev is not on Doomworld. Much possible, because he's russian.

I mean it's shit, both have Forever on it and both look like shit

You are vastly undervalueing DNF. Yes, it was, by comparison to DN3D, a very flawed title. Duke having a two weapon slot limit, wut?

But having played the majority of the game on X360 (Which performs pretty shit), there is still fun to be had with DNF. The interactive levels with a Monster Truck, the useless things like drawing on a chalk board, the shrinking mechanisms - By and large its a serviceable game.

Its a technological miracle too, being a mix of Unreal Engine 1, Unreal Warfare and 3DRealms rendering code.

The big problem with DNF is that its a Duke Nukem game. If it was marketed as anything else, it would still not be a A+ title, but atleast it would be a no holds barred game. DNF carrying the Duke moniker actively hurts the title because everyone is going to retroactively compare it with its predecessor.

So:

  • Compared to DN3D: Its a letdown.
  • Taken on its own: Serviceable.
  • If it were a fully standalone IP: A good first effort.

Hello, it's me. I am a fan of this Russian pirate mod. In 2006, the mod made the strongest impression on me. My first shooter ever.

I haven't worked on the mod since June 27th. Since there were first love in life, I even managed to get married, but she left me, soon a divorce. And I returned to mod.

I'm very excited to be back in development. Thanks for the long distance connection.

I'm not exactly Russian. I am Kryashen, I know two languages Tatar and Russian.

My drawing from childhood, when I managed to play the first 6 levels in this mod, the game console was not mine, but I asked to leave a disk for me, and copied it. Later they came for him. in 2012 I had a dream where I play Doom Forever and I found a way to emulate the image. I went through the mod completely, although I saw a lot of bugs that I didn’t notice because of the fantasy of childhood.

It's awesome to see you finally join the forum! I love everything about the PS1 version of Doom and i see PSX Doom Forever as this obscure thing you only see videos about but is always out of reach to play yourself, you remastering it will make it far more accessible to people who're interested in it. The weird clashing art styles, strange choices for monsters, it's all so fascinating!

I'm super interested in the background of this, who originally made the custom stuff for the original version and where was it available to actually buy?

You see a lot of people put down PSX Doom Forever and yes it's clear it's just a pirate version of Doom with some assets modified but a fact is that it's probably a one of a kind thing and that makes it worth preserving and remastering.

The most awesome part of the PSX Doom Forever HD project is that you're clearly making it for yourself, because you're a fan of the original. That makes me want to try it too, and i definitely will play it once the project is released.

Welcome to Doomworld!

Also i legitimately think the new Rocket Launcher is way cooler than the standard Doom Rocket Launcher 😁

Yes, I also really like the texture art style in Doom Forever. And I am mutually glad to be on this forum, because now I am free from chains and can finally devote my personal time to remastering the mod in order to release the first version.

The mod was probably created by one of the Russian localizers of Enternity in 2000. Sold in the markets as ps1 discs at the beginning of the new millennium. in 2019, I managed to buy the last two discs from different localizers, but they are the same.

Yes, reviving the mod by getting rid of bugs, making corrections and replacing cropped compressed sprites with whole and better ones from Batman Doom, Quake, covert ops v1.0. I also now do HD textures and sprites myself, although it takes a lot of time, I am very passionate about this work.

I will try to release the first version of the remaster by the summer.

In the original mod, the rocket launcher sprites were very crookedly inserted into the mod. I had to manually make high-quality animation. And I tried to find a mod where the original rocket launcher came from. Unfortunately, all my attempts to find were unsuccessful, as well as the plasma gun and BFG sprites in the mod, the original source was not found.

Glad to see progress on your project! Weird how different these maps look with the PSX Forever textures.

Do the enemies behave exactly like they do in the standard PSX Doom? Did they modify behavior or hit points?

Yes, texture levels are perceived differently. Enemies behave exactly the same as in the original Psx Doom, only sprites, Brightmaps color, lighting changed, manually edited.
