IMJack Posted April 16, 2002 Hey looky, it's a lame new take on the classic lame music poll. The question is: What's your favorite song cover? And what's your favorite song parody? Some of my favorite covers are No Use For A Name's version of "Enjoy Silence," and "Land Down Under" and "Tainted Love" as done by Bad Religion. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lüt Posted April 16, 2002 Strapping Young Lad covering Judas Priest's Exciter. Moonspell covering Depeche Mode's Sacred. Tiamat's version of Rolling Stones' Sympathy for the Devil was nice, but I hate the Stones and that particular cover song didn't fit on Skeleton Skeletron very well. It shoulda stayed as a B-Side. Anal Cunt playing 311 Sucks. Oh, and just about anything and everything by Weird Al. I don't really care for cover songs though, they usually don't fit the style of the band covering them at all, and make the band covering them seem silly to people who enjoy the original versions. 0 Share this post Link to post

Darkstalker Posted April 16, 2002 I don't buy enough CD to know what cover I like but every made by Weird Al is good, like Gump or Smell Like Nirvana. 0 Share this post Link to post
fodders Posted April 16, 2002 Sex Pistol's cover of God Save The Queen 0 Share this post Link to post
IMJack Posted April 17, 2002 New candidate: Flogging Molly's version of "Delilah". 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted April 17, 2002 Muahaha...if its one thing I love, its cover songs. Good ones at least. I have made myself a covers CD, and plan to make myself a couple more. But that aside, my favorite cover would have to be No Quarter, a Led Zeppelin song covered by Tool. No Quarter was always my favorite Zeppelin song, then I heard Tool's version, which is like 10x better. Other good covers: Terrible Lie, by Slick Idiot (originaly Nine Inch Nails) Sin, by Razed in Black (Nine Inch Nails) Stripped, by Rammstein (Depeche Mode) All Tomorrow's Parties, by Razed in Black (Velvet Underground) Metal, by Nine Inch Nails (Gary Numan) - also better than the original Boots, KMFDM (???) - Its that one 'These boots are made for walking' song Borderline, by ohGr (Madonna) - Never heard the original Also, some of the more...er...interesting covers: Material Girl, by KMFDM (Madonna) I Touch Myself, by Genitorturers (?some 80s chick?) Crap...and thats not counting all the great songs from Nativity in Black or the Depeche Mode tribute CD...hmmm /me loves music 0 Share this post Link to post
Crendowing Posted April 17, 2002 Only cover that I distinctly remember is Orgy's Blue Monday, orignally by New Order. I used to like Weird Al, but that was before I grew up. EDIT: Wait a minute...now I just remembered Marylin Manson's versions of Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love, both of which were so-so at the extreme best. I just downloaded two NIN covers: Tool's Terrible Lie (good if you're stoned), and try to figure out this one..... Liam, if you though NIN was terrible at looping drum beats and such, wait until you hear Devo's, that's right, DEVO'S version of Head Like A Hole. 0 Share this post Link to post

I have it somewhere but I don't want to risk having to get my ears cleaned out again. 0 Share this post Link to post
Naked Snake Posted April 17, 2002 Boots, KMFDM (???) - Its that one 'These boots are made for walking' song Either Frank or Nancy Sinatra, one of those two... 0 Share this post Link to post

Heh...eeew...I also hear that he did a cover of Down in the Park by Gary Numan with Trent Reznor...it was a bad song to start with. Marylin Manson did, however do covers of Sweet Dreams and I Put a Spell On You which were both pretty cool, especialy the latter.Crendowing said:Liam, if you though NIN was terrible at looping drum beats and such, wait until you hear Devo's, that's right, DEVO'S version of Head Like A Hole. Heh...I actualy like that....I think it was intended as a bit of a parody anyway. But I also love devo...they were like the only good 80s mainstream band. 0 Share this post Link to post

Slipknot - Comfortably Numb[/b] NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! NO! No way! They'd completely fuck it up. All their crap is all angry, ugly-sounding pig grunting. Comfortably numb is a beautiful, serene piece of work hinting at drug-induced insanity. Not even Tool did a good job covering it. 0 Share this post Link to post
