Difficulty: Straight-Up Anal Annihilation

Make yourself an Irish coffee or three before tackling this one; you're going to need them. Plutonia Winds, in traditional Plutonia fashion, likes nothing more than to bombard you with Commandos, Arch-Viles and Revenants until you're cowering like a pathetic wretch in the corner of the room just wishing it would all go away.

I'm glad that reviews are still cropping in :D

I do have a question, would you consider reviewing 15 complete maps of a WIP megawad (in other words MAP01 to MAP15 are done, the rest are not)?

Is there a link to the wip page for the project or do you just have the maps?

Better, I can send you the most recent build (Includes music, level graphics and the 15 complete maps). I'll PM it to you if you want.

Well, you can certainly do that but the reason I ask is this - if people want to keep up with the project, then they'll have a place to go.
I think we can do a review. That should be fine, but I want to make sure people are always getting the most up to date version of the project

Oh, there is a thread for it:

But I don't update it until something really notable happens (Like a map is completed), the latest revision is not found in the thread (which is why I suggested sending the new one over via PM)

Double Impact is an Episode 1 replacement for Doom/Ultimate Doom by RottKing & Ralphis, for use with ZDoom/GZDoom. I'm not gonna waste your time on this one - You should absolutely play this episode.

Oh, right. I forgot, reviews aren't exactly convincing with two sentences. So, let's go into why you want to play Double Impact.

Difficulty: 9

For the decades I've been playing this game, only two wads have challenged me the way Double Impact has. Monster placement, while predictable at times, is done in such a way that it doesn't even matter if it's predictable or not.

Doom Wad Station has been around a VERY long time. I have reviews going back to 1999 and the original site (Bob's Doom and Doom 2 site) goes back even further than that. But, this isn't about the site - it's about the wads that I reviewed way back when. I thought it would be nice to bring some of them back into the light from the dark underbelly of time. So, with that in mind.... here is the first one I chose to bring attention (back) to - It's called "Forsaken" and is for original Doom. The map was done by an absolutely brilliant map maker who went by the name of "Wolfy". You'll be glad you downloaded this:

As I remember, Wolfy was one of the better mappers out there. I actually have a lot of stuff by him, and some other really good mappers. I think it would be a shame to just let them collect digital dust so I think every now I'll drag one out of the dungeon so that a new generation of players can enjoy their work

I've been visiting the One Man Doom blogspot site, but I'll be sure to spend a few hours browsing the Wad Station this week. Whatever happened to good old Bob? But from what I've seen, you're doing a really good job.

First, before I get to this review, I want to thank the "crew" who have been doing such a tremendous job on these reviews. Zorah, SS, Blue - thanks guys. At the pace that the review requests are arriving and the pace that we're getting them out, I think there is a really good chance that DWS could post 75 to 100 reviews this year. That's pretty solid.

Oh - and not to forget you guys - the mappers. Thanks for sending them in. It's been a blast so far! :-)

On to this one - a 32 level megawad called Countdown to Extinction.
From the review:

Countdown to Extinction is HARD. Cheap enemy placement, maps are somewhat understocked with ammo and medical supplies, and weapons are quite scarce. Mr. "I Can Hit You From Anywhere And Revive All The Enemies You Just Killed" Archvile is plentiful as well, often attacking in groups.

"Shitbag"? I can't think why he was not taken more seriously. Thanks for the review, am off to dowload the map now.

EDIT: Something dodgy going on here. The zip file contains a pk4 file and asks me to unzip it into my Doom 3 folder.

Thanks for pointing that out.
I replaced it with the correct file. Got the wrong one when I rebuilt the site apparently. /shrug

Assuming it's the same person, shtbag was a pretty good mapper, and MIDI composer. I've played a few of his maps but not this one, so I'll check it out.

Cool idea on map03 with teleporting non-alerted monsters into the map, somehow never seen that done before I think.
