These are some interesting looking maps. I wish I had more time to play, but the idea of a 1 hour speed mapping stint sounds like fun! I may have to give this a shot before I go to bed tonight.

Radiation.

What's this? A Plutonia map? Heh, this'll be one of the secret maps in my megawad when it finally comes together. I tried focusing less on detail with this one and I'm quite pleased with how it came out. Be careful, it's a tricky blighter.

pretty fun for a short map, ran out of ammo a few times.

after I spotted the trap with the shotgun I avoided it but didn't have enough shells to take out the baron on the stairs.

thought it was cool that the best time to take out the vile was before you fought the hellknights/revenants, so it couldn't rez them. in the end I just lured it away and snuck into the exit.

cyberdemon felt a bit pointless, no threat at all.

revenants in the blue key room were super boring, just stood in the doorway shooting at them, no challenge.

everything looked kinda nice overall

Thanks for the feedback dude. Personally I don't really think the words "Cyberdemon" and "no threat" go together, but that's just me. :P In other news:

Time Bomb.

Good grief, it's a bomb! Hit the right switch and it's disarmed, hit the wrong switch and be poured into your coffin! Be careful...

i meant because you can just run to the exit heh

I suppose, but considering all the UV-Maxers out there I didn't think it'd be too much of a problem. :P

Double post.

Immolation.

I told you I'd make a map with this name. :P Also props to Jimmy for making an excellent catalog of MIDIs that I can pilfer from.

Immolation has two kind of significant problems you may want to look at:

1) If the player presses the switches that lower the RK pillar too quickly, the thing doesn't lower all the way

2) Arch-Vile punching

See demo for both.

Neat maps most of these you've made, I've got FDAs for all but I'll post them later in a package.

Yeah, I knew about that one. Let's just say that's the player's punishment for rushing too fast.

2) Arch-Vile punching

You punched an Arch-vile to death? 8-/ Who does that?

Thanks for the feedback Venien, it's much appreciated.

That's right, I punched an Arch-Vile to death. Without the berserk pack. And I thought it was too easy :p

It's just a major exploit (cornering him into the little hole he first appears in, that is) I randomly found while recording and not really even a problem per se since your average player probably doesn't even notice the possibility. Just though it was pretty funny and if nothing else it makes Tyson-speedruns a walk in the park heh.

Rippler.

Secret map number two! This is sort of a "bonus level" if you will: there are various goodies strewn throughout the map and you need to get as many as possible before they pass you by. 50 minutes into this one I accidentally disconnected my computer: fortunately I'd saved around the 20 minute mark, but it was still a pain in the butt and it threw off my timing by a decent amount. Whatever, I'm pretty sure I spent one hour on this overall. Have fun!

This map requires Plutonia.wad, if only for the rock and waterfall textures.

Dig in!

I accidentally another library map. :3 The music at the moment is "Countdown to Death" from Doom II, but if anyone can find a more fitting MIDI I'd be much obliged.

Maskim Xul.

Not as strong as some of my other maps, but still alright. I might expand on this concept in the future, it's a fairly decent one.

Don't know if it's the mood you're going for, but I think casa4.mid from Hexen 2 goes OK with it. It's something different than Doom music at least.

I thought Maskim Xul was good. Fairly straightforward but a few of those are allowed.

Hmm...a little quiet, but I like it! Thanks plums. :)

Also, 18 maps done! I'm not quite sure how I got this far. :P

Entropy Device.

Time Bomb 2: Electric Boogaloo! This time around the demons were smart enough to guard the thing, so expect some stiff resistance. And of course there's the bomb to worry about...

terramorph FDA https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8943931/fda/terramorphjmickleFDA.lmp

This was pretty OK, but I had zero inclination to kill anything after those hellknights appeared. I eventually realized that the vile wasn't much of a problem since all he would rez were imps. I think I got lucky on my last run because the mastermind had trouble teleporting.

I think this was my favourite of these 3, though I'm not a fan of the bomb scenario (random chance of death is no fun). Luckily it didn't cause a problem because I seemed to survive the first one by running out of the way? is that intentional? The arch was (not a surprise from playing a lot of these, but) kinda cool because you had to think quick to find cover. I used the invulnerability, but the start path would also have done, or the cage. It would just have been a tad more difficult. Invulnerabilities are cool because you kinda want to save them to when you can use them. Good secret. The barons and the hellknight were pretty boring, no challenge there. The setup for the revenants was crying out to be cheesed, since they can't hit you from the switch. I'd relay that area to make it more dangerous.

hellfire compound FDA https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8943931/fda/hellfirecompoundjmickleFDA.lmp

Boring, honestly. Archviles used like this are just no fun. Didn't care to finish it at all. Some soul spheres scattered about may have made it bearable? That way you don't have to play it perfectly from start to finish.

Just for future reference, there's a hint hidden in MAP19 that allows you to find the correct switch. Look closely. :P Thanks for the feedback.

Uhh...it kind of shows you which switch to press.

I played Terramorph and Hellfire—fun stuff. I hope you'll soon have a megawad's worth of this stuff; you always have some pretty interesting ideas in your work.

Played a couple of these speedmaps, enjoyed a lot. I admire your skills, Obsidian. You produce quality, which feels complete and stylistically unified, in such a short time and fast succession, persistently. Keep it up! :)

FEAR IS YOUR ONLY GOD! I was originally going to make a map called Roll Right, but all the MIDIs I found for it were varying degrees of crap. Go figure.

Uhh.

i understand how it's supposed to help, after knowing which is the correct switch to press, but it looks like it's indicating the switch on the other side.

Ah, right. I'll see if can change it to be a bit more obvious. Thanks for that.
