My God. This is the greatest thing ever. The old door sounds are back, hell even the door textures look like the originals. And, on top of it all, that has got to be the most bad ass Cyber I've ever seen. In fact, the fact he's in the reveal trailer gives me the impression they're gearing up for something even bigger and badder than him...oh shit I can't wait.

I really hope the actual trailer is going to be better. That Cyberdemon vs Spidermastermind part from map 20 would make an amazing trailer. Doomguy fights imps, demons and revenants is wounded and as he goes on he sees these two hulking figures. Realizing he is almost out of ammo and almost dead he outsmarts the enemies and tricks the spiderdemon into hitting the cyberdemon, thus starting an epic battle and when they are weakened Doomguy shoots a rocket in them both.

The biomechanical nature of several of Doom's enemies (mostly upper tier ones) is beautifully represented in the trailer. That impression is mostly absent in Doom 3, where enemies like the revs and manc boss seemed to have too much separation between flesh and machine. Here, it looks much more detailed and much more methodical, a blurring of the lines. I'm hoping there will still be fully flesh-and-blood enemies, but I'm open to other aesthetics, such as ghostly, etherial, surreal, insect-like, rock/stone (that bleeds, of course), etc. But I think fully cybernetic might be kind of boring, let's hope that there's nothing of that nature.

EDIT: Just thought of another stylistic/design choice: Fleshy walls that keep spawning enemies until a critical point is destroyed. I also have a design floating in my head of massive tendrils that emerge from the walls, decapitate dead marines, penetrates the neck cavity and plants small-scale enemies that burst out of the subject when you approach them. Almost like a mix between a pain elemental and the "Alien" chestbursters.

I can't imagine that they won't include flesh only enemies.

I think some of you are overanalyzing the teaser. It's just a short teaser that mentions the fact that demons can use technology. Nothing else.

Doom would not be Doom without classic monsters like the imp or the cacodemon. I would be amazed if Id doesn't understand this, which I am 99% sure they do.

@hardcore_gamer

And on top of that, the classic Doom sound(s) and door model could be there because the "trailer guy" thought it would be fun. At this point I see it more as a Quakecon teaser than a Doom teaser. I hope it's somewhat representative of the game though. Looks nice.

Rivalry between the demons is a must! Especially between greater and lesser demons.

Putting that in just because it's "fun" could be quite dangerous...Id should know better.

No, it's the fans fault they can't see the difference between a reference and a promise. Seriously, some are really expecting old door sound in this game? I mean, come on.

It can still be a sound very similar to that, without being the same.

Sure, maybe it'll be very close or something. I just find it weird some actually consider this to be a promise that doors will sound like that. To me it's an obvious reference, "it's like the original sound!", not "I'll be disappointed if it's not in the game". I've seen such comments in a couple of places.

It's funny that you ask that right now because I'll be posting a thread that kind of answers that later today (maybe). So I'll see you there.

Also before you ask, regarding staying in the dark until the release, I haven't watched the teaser. I roughly know what's in it from comments (will have to avoid this entire section after QuakeCon) and I've seen a screenshot of the Cyber, by accident. But like I said, it's inevitable that some bits will reach me.

I expect to see the old sound in some doors, but not in all of them, because it would be boring, different kinds of doors should have different sounds.

So do you work for id or something?

Man, that one is so old.

Old but gold, it is a redesign which keeps the Doom spirit for a monster. The Cyberdemon shown in the trailer looks like it came from Gears of War, but still looks good for a Doom monster.

I don't know if it was made by ID or some fan, but it was the most awesome Revenant I've seen, I hope ID uses this design as inspiration for this Doom's Revenant:

It has a more Doom spirit due to the gore-esque design. The Cyberdemon shown in teaser looks more like a Locust from Gears of war, but still looks good.

I hope not. That doesn't look anything like the Revenant IMO. Looks more like something you would see out of Quake 4 rather than Doom.

Quake 4 has a lame design just like some lame design from Doom 3. And Revenant is basically some skeleton with some meat-organs plus mechanical parts, in other words, some kind of cyborg.

It much better than this lame cyborg.

I liked most of the Doom 3 monsters, my top ones being the imp, baron and revenant. Too bad they weren't more diverse in their color scheme.

If it doesn't have shoulder rockets and an exposed cranium, pelvis, and femurs, then it is not a Revenant to me.

D3 design was good for me at the first gameplay, maybe because the graphics were fresh in 2004, but years later I revisited D3 and found the monsters design, let's say 90% of them, lame and boring.

I hope this new Doom artists make a better monster design that holds up for years to come, unlike D3 and its design that got old, lame and boring fast after few years.

Doom 3's monsters are (mostly) stale because it seems like the artists weren't sure what to do with them. The fact that they look so startlingly different from the originals isn't the problem. Rather, they just don't feel very threatening. The texture work is nice, but it always feels like there's something missing, and not just spikes and horns. A few of the designs are great--like pinky, the cherub and the Mancubus--but most everyone else looks dull. Judging from the trailer, they're going to look a hell of a lot better. Eh? Eh? Hell?

On a side note, I hope the human models look better as well. To me, the Doom 3 humans amount to descriptions like, "Unnecessarily big-titted redhead," "Frowny scientist #3," "Obvious antagonist is obvious," "Doom Guy with mild pompadour," "Why would anyone need eye glasses in the future," etc.

I liked the lost souls. Original Doom 3 lost souls that is. Now if they were the size of caco demons that would've been crazy.
