First-try Demo Contest #14 (5th July 14:00 UTC)

Today Shadowman offered a three map wad for FDC. So we can have another contest pretty soon but the question is: is this a good time, is there enough interest? If you want to participate please say so in this thread! The time will be around 14:00 UTC sunday\saturday as usual I guess (not certain yet).

The only possible Sunday for me (apart from today) is July 13th, quite late (16:00 utc or later). Saturdays: July 5th anytime, 12th after 15:00 utc, 19th=no.

I'm not usually busy on weekends during the contests (assuming same time as usual), so I'll be able to participate pretty much regardless of when this is happening (unless I forget or something).

Do I have to post a demo before that time or on that time? Does it have to be a D2ALL?

At 13:00 UTC we will post a passworded archive so that everyone could download it beforehand. Then at 14:00 the password will be revealed and you are supposed to start playing immmediately after that.

And yes, record one demo (movie). If you die, just press USE to respawn and continue trying.

I don't have the access to the wad btw so I'm going to participate as well.

Shadowman will prepare the results table and he won't be using Opulent's tool (understandably, as it is a bit time consuming to use), so today please exit intermission screens as soon as possible.

Again, reminding you that there are three levels in the wad and you need to beat them all in one demo. If you die, just press use to restart the level, don't quit the game.

Sorry guys. Put mine down as a did not finish. First map is way too laggy for me. Add to that the fact that I spent ages roaming around looking for a button, and then I found it, and then I died, and then I accidentally quit, and then I died again...

MAP01 is impossible, I'm sitting for half an hour and I can't get past the third yard, too open and there's no health exept for some worthless health bonuses, so that map sucks and I don't wanna see it like this anymore.
Will it be accepted to put a demo only with MAP01?

Yep, I also spent a lot of time looking for that switch... A bit too puzzly map for FDC perhaps. The other two seemed better in that aspect. I guess my time will be kinda shitty because of map01.

joe-ilya: all demos are accepted but of course you will be one of the last in the table with no maps finished.

You're not alone, Kotzugi. Didn't notice the window for like 3 minutes and there were 2 doors that couldn't be opened....of course I quit the demo thinking I ran it with bad compability or something :\

Also, anyone else have issues with webfile.ru? I couldn't download either of the files in Chromium nor Firefox. It redirects me to http://webfile.ru/thanks but the file doesn't start downloading.

I don't mind the puzzliness much. Some guys here specialize in that and it's interesting to see how quickly they can solve it (I got stuck trying to find the switch that lowers the first teleporter). It's the lag and, to a lesser degree, shotgun guys hiding behind the trees. :) My laptop is about 5,5 years old, sometimes it's just slower than usual as well. Looking forward to see the winner's demo. I'll try the other two maps just for kicks, but there's no point in uploading anything now.

Easy maps. Managed to die on MAP03, but items are near the start, so no drama and good job with the maps... except the first one, which left me unimpressed as well. What Kotzugi says should be taken into account in the future.
