Doom [4] reveal first impressions

I cannot believe there is no reloading. That is the ballsiest thing ever. Can anyone tell me weather this game has Aim-Down-Sights or not?

I liked to play D1-2 with modern weapons mod + reload much more than the classic weapons. The modern design of the weapons + new sounds + reload let the game cooler and made the classic weapons look so boring that turned it unplayable without mod.

HOLY SHIT! This is going to be good AND mostly exactly what I want from Doom 4?

Did the environments look like they could have any secrets? Did you notice any other classic Doom textures?

So,how new Duumguy looks like? Is he helmet looks like in classic Doom or maybe more like Doom3? Barons have horns? And how looks imps? They have spikes or they looks more like D3 versions?

Got hyped just by reading that article! Hopefully, it wont be long before we get to see some gameplay ourselves. Good job GoatLord & Caffeine Freak!

Health seems to spill out of fallen enemies as little round symbols with crosses. I don't get this. It seems awkward, but could potentially work.

Yet another game with useless healthbar. With linear levels. Possibly semi-infinite ammo. Can't they just hire a man, who can balance the game in all aspects?

The closest sounding game I can think of at the moment based on the descriptions of the Doom first reveal, is Serious Sam 3; people have said SS3 was closer to Doom, than earlier SS games.

So, after 4 hours of sleep and a fuckton of reading up, it sounds a little better than Brutal Doom knockoff. You also have to weigh in the heavily skewed misconception (from my point of view) that Doom was a game like Serious Sam. Many of the journalists WANTS Doom to be like that, so they obviously put a lot of focus on that in their comments and reportings.

I'm all for faster speed and greater mobility as long as it doesn't detract from the experience (like Rott 2013), but according to someone who seems to be a developer of said game, Doom is much slower than Rott. The fatalities sound like lame, unnecessary pandering to 15 year olds, but not having seen it it's hard to say. My main concern is to keep the player the hero and not a psychopath (the real monster).

They need to release a video to the public very soon if they are to contain people's imaginations. Things are going to build up and expectations will be running wild. The only damage control (or preventive measures) is to let everyone see what the fuss is about before the expectations get out of sync with reality.

Has anyone heard anything about non-cybernetic foes yet?

The OP comments that the bad guys seem like experiments of the UAC and I've personally not read anything about the likes of Doom's more demonic foes like Imps and Cacodemons.

One might also note that the earlier CGI trailer visibly showed the bad guy's weapon was UAC branded.

Could they be doing something like the Doom movie and removing Hell?

This is sounding pretty damned interesting but 'There is an implication that the monsters are UAC experiments gone wrong' worries me. I want demons from hell not some experimental chromosome bullshit.

if think they just mean that the portal was caused by human experiments, otherwise i don't like it either

But they carry UAC weapons fused in their bodies. it needs to have a proper explanation.

No reload surprised even some die-hard Doom fans in bethforums. They at least expect weapons to reload. The high jumps and unusual strength of the Doomguy for the fatalities can be explained by the high tech suit he wears.

Enemies giving health upon death is dumb, semi regenerative health like in wolfen would be better.

They are trying to simulate the horror tone of D3 but giving it a more intense action, it is a good thing. No metal music please.

actually i really like the enemies drop health thing, it make you work to get health, i hate to death every form of regeneration, down with that crap

I like it too. Diablo 3 did it as well and it worked quite well.

Diablo is not Doom.

Health drop worked in Painkiller, but it was disappearing after a while and was raising health by just 1 point. How many health does give health drop in Doom?

Having watched the SS3 trailer without actually having played SS3, I can say that it didn't really remind me much of what I saw last night. The splatter effects and hordes of enemies were kind of similar, but the tone, atmosphere and presentation of the two games was entirely different. The old-style mechanics of the Doom demo (high speed running, enemies dropping health, etc.) didn't take away from the overall serious, dark and moody presentation of the game. Well... Okay, the enemies dropping items did a little bit, but that had more to do with the fact that the items were highlighted when dropped. It still didn't come across like some goofy splatter-fest, because the gore was contained to the right moments of the game.

I don't remember him picking up any keys.

As for ammo, I remember him collecting it from fallen enemies, as well as from crates and boxes.

It's hard to say exactly how linear the levels were. They had vast, open areas that seemed ripe for exploration, but then again, the guy playing had obviously practiced before, so he knew where he was going and what to do. He didn't waste a lot of time wandering around.

So how did it look?
Is it very similar to Doom 3? Somewhat Phobos similar too? Not in quality of course, but basically Doom3 + wider rooms, more vertical etc?

And more importatng thing - how Doomguy and monsters looks like? Is model of Doomguy based on classic Doom or is it based on that from Doom3?

Never saw the model of Doomguy, except for his hands.

In terms of the types of environments(Martian landscape, sci-fi type installations I described earlier), yes. In terms of the artistic style of the environments, how detailed they were, not really. There's some familiarity with the sci-fi tech stuff from Doom 3, but there's been so much new life breathed into it.

Does the game feel like it's made to be played years after its release? While I really liked TNO after finishing it 4-5 times I have no desire to replay it. Is Doom different?

Don't tell my you never see how player looks like in classic Doom. That sprite was based on clay model. So is that new Doomguy model based on classic Doom or is based on Doom3? What about monsters? How they look?

Is the helmet/screen rounded like Metroid Prime and Halo 4 or is it the traditional flat screen view from every other FPS? Any on-screen/face effects, such as glass/eyes breaking or blood dripping on the screen?

The health, did it literally drop to the ground(like a pool ball I would imagine...) or did it float like Metroid Prime Pickups?

Any map? Does it look like the levels will need a map?

I heard enemies glow which signal for stealth attacks, is this true?

What was the infighting like? Did it seem random or was it a scripted event that could be broken up?

Enemy attacks and player attacks, does it seem "puzzle" based like the original or more of "this gun is more powerful, this enemy is more powerful, they all are killed the same way."

Melee implies a bit of survival horror if needed to preserve ammo, so how scarce is ammo? Or is melee in there solely because hey look everybody, Mortal Kombat 1-3 was a trash fighter but the gore made it more popular than Street Fighter 2 and its going to be what puts us over Call of Duty.

I don't hope so. If DOOM is as goofy as SS3 I'll pass, or at least download the game for free.

The Doomguy model wasn't shown in the demo. That's what I'm telling you.

Recenants had jet packs and rotting flesh (from what I recall) attached to them. Zombies were pale and deformed, with pieces missing from them sometimes. Imps were somewhat reminiscent of Doom 3, kind of an 'Aliens' vibe to them, and this was true of the Helllknights as well. Mancubus was bulky, dark-skinned, and had armor. Cyber demon was much as he's shown in the teaser. It was sometimes hard to make out the enemies, being as far as I was from the screen, in addition to the lighting not always being optimal, and the player moving around very fast during combat.

That's kind of hard for me to say without playing it. It looks very fun and addictive, I will say that much.
