ok got it.

anyone want to check out the eriance stuff to see wich is the original stuff and wich is edits?

off topic, midoriman just said that he is also fine with just username (hes helping with the reptile thing)

hey guys can i release the stuff i make from scratch here under the freedoom license and elsewhere under the creative commons (i dont remember the combination but there is one that is free for comercial use and everything) if not can i release elsewhere to public domain, while here it remains freedoom licensed?(this was done with the grell)
i ask because i want to start a libre graphics tread over at zdoom (kinda like the sriting carnival but libre graphics only)

CC-BY-SA or CC0 should be alright, but I am not a lawyer.

those spheres where done by eriance, the only problem is that i cant tell if they are completly original, the sheet from wich i got them inluded spheres that used faces from the original doom, this ones look original to me thoug

here is a folder with the eriance stuff that i think wwe could use, they still need editing to remove the uac captions, the hands apper to be original, but im not sure. if you guys think we should add any of these, just tell me what to edit (to remove the copyrighted parts, such as the uac and bfg captions)

Ooh, those are nice. Maybe I should hold off on my photography idea if others are in favor of those sprites being implemented.

well the more options the merrier ;-), althoug eriance already greenlighted the inclusion of this stuff, im just trying to see what needs to be edited out. the hands of the current shotgun can very easely be put into the eri shotgun if neccesary because the position is very similar.

the tread really needs to be renamed i think, since it includes stuff from others now (how about just sprite edits?)

That BFG is from the movie. I don't know what the legalize if it resembles the Movie BFG and was made from scratch, or if it was made from a screenshot of the film (As there is one FPS shot of the BFG). Granted, it would fit with the fact Freedoom Guy sorta looks like Karl Urban. :P

Personally I'd rather not see the Demon Eclipse guns in Freedoom. They're good, but I feel like they belong to DE.

Conversely, I would like to see them in FD. I suggest that only these are used:

They're very similar in color scheme and general concept of the originals, but they're clearly different enough to be acceptable IMO. Perhaps I can supply a basis for the chainsaw, fist, PR and BFG?

Luckily, I already made the first item on that list three years ago. Perhaps it is time for reconsideration?

My arms are skinny as hell and these sprites probably do need to be edited anyway for cleanup and consistency with the DE set if it's used.

It's worth noting that it's in native Doom sprite pixel aspect ratio, so that means it must be seen in 5:6. Photoshop provides a means to see the image that way, so I suggest using that if attempting edits.

I personally don't see much wrong with the current weapons other than the BFG, Chainsaw and Fist.

On a slightly off topic note, I did this earlier


Nothing too fancy, but pretty neato imo. I'm not much of a fan of Hi-res packs myself, but if it's easy to make, why the hell not?

It's been a long time since I've bothered to look at FD, but I thought the weapon sprites in it were some of the best stuff it had to offer. The shotguns and BFG were kind of crap but the rest I think I'd rather see stay. The monsters largely sucked and deserved replacing, but for the guns, why replace what isn't broken?

hey guys i was thinking, since we have a cyberdemon that is mastermind inspired, how about we have a cyberdemon inspired mastermind

the sprite bellow is only a concept to show what i mean, the actual sheet would be completly redone from scratch (this guy was also done from scartch, but its not exactly game quality)and will have a cleaner design. what do you think?



i would make sure it covers the dimensions of the mastermind, by having the MG be angled in the front frames

i modified the design, still not quite where i want it to be, but i think its getting there



its a few pixels taller than the mastermind because of the horns, butill work that out as i go along, its also less wide than it should be, but ill give it a longer tail to compensate

Looking nice, but I'd avoid having the body be too wide as that can look awkward with the way sprite perspective is handled.

Sure, that could work well. I just brought up my old chainsaw sprites since they already exist and figured that people may find it useful as one of many possibilities.

I've put together some new sprites, I will post them relatively soon in my own thread.

im doing 6 (without counting the recolors) i know i should focus on a single sheet at a time, ill focus on finishing the fat lizard first. sorry if its irresponsible to work so randomly :-(

The tiger-like thing is not a spider-demon. FreeDoom already has a spider-demon, custom made for FreeDoom, in a style compatible with the other sprites. It is not one of the things that needs to be finished.

Are you actually trying to work on missing sprites or just fooling around with everything. Are our contributions going to get trashed simply because this group got an impulse when we were not looking?

There's no requirement for the spider monsters to look like spiders. In fact it would be better if they didn't - it makes Freedoom more original. See the submission guidelines:

Do not simply copy the original resources. Where possible, try to make an effort to make the new versions look visibly different from the originals.


I like raymoohawk's edits - he's done some really great work. Obviously I'd prefer we have a complete set of monster sprites, but ultimately it's up to him what he wants to work on. What exactly is your problem?

just to clarify a few things to everyone, i know its happened before that someone shows up with a lot of ideas for freedoom and later doesn’t finish anything, but i think i already showed that i can finish full sprite sheets, im a bit busy with school that’s why i slowed down, but the caco has been finished for a while and the fat lizard is almost done, as soon as im done with school (which should be this week if everything goes fine) ill pick up the pace.
i put my sprites here in case someone wants to add them but its not something that they have to do if they don’t want to ;-)
its truth that im making more designs than the number Freedoom needs, but ive already mentioned that its because i have hopes for an eventual zdeep in freedoom.
i dont expect any of my resources to be permanent and if in turn someone brings along something that replaces my stuff i see that as a good thing because games like freedoom and open arenae have an advantage that the originals dont, they can constantly renew themselves
now in part i chose to contribute to freedoom as a learning experience, but also because i have hopes of making 3d games that are sprite based and there is no way i could do all the textures and sounds by myself and would feel bad taking the freedoom stuff without contributing anything
lastly i realize that my way of working in wich i post every little update i do can be annoyeing, but i think it helps improve the deisigns. flaws can be pointed out early, otherwise corrections would have to be done to the whole sheet
