tsareppsun Posted May 22, 2002 Ya'll have some short memories. Can't anyone here tell the D3 logo was bitten*(That's copied) off the original logo on the N64 verion of DOOM(DOOM64) All that was changed was the artwork within the letters and the 64 was removed from bottom of the word and replaced with the roman numerial 3. How I know this? Cuz I'm staring at my DOOM64 posture on my door right now as I type this...... And those of you who commented on my signature..."Go buff a camel's nob!!"(;P) I'm changing it now to something alittle more simplier......OK? Shhheeesssh! 0 Share this post Link to post

gatewatcher Posted May 22, 2002 I personaly think that the setting of doom iii should take place on mars. why? i dunno, i just think that the whole doom feel is based around mars and of course hell. thats just me however. will it even matter where it takes place? it might if the plot depends on that factor. in terms of gameplay, i doubt it. Doom iii is going to take place in corridors and small rooms, as some of the developers have already said. whatever the case, on mars or not, we can at least look forward to some interesting atmosphere views wherever the character finds himself ;). 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted May 22, 2002 It's "it is on Mars", not "I think it should be on Mars". 0 Share this post Link to post

And as far as I remember, the D64 logo has the same "stuff" inside the letters as Doom 1's logo - cyan tech and some yellow metal plating covering the lower parts of the letters. You may be referring to the fact that the "new" logo seems a little more "perspectivized" so that it seems that the logo looms a bit more over you. id propably chose to "bite" the D64 logo because it looked like the other Doom logos, but that little detail was cooler. 0 Share this post Link to post

dsm Posted May 22, 2002 Well, now that it's official that Doom 3's a remake and not a sequel, then I'd agree a little more with orion - I still like the logo in itself, but the title is ridiculous. Bah! 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted May 22, 2002 DOOM 3 is not a remake of the original DOOM. At least not the way I see it, judging from current facts. 0 Share this post Link to post

Well, it says that it'll be a "retelling" of the Doom story (it'll be like RtCW in other words) and the basic story is the same: Scientists experiment with teleportation, something goes wrong and they accidentally open a gate to..... Fredrik Posted May 22, 2002 If it was a "remake", then I think it would at least feature gameplay similar to that of the original. "Retelling" makes more sense to me. 0 Share this post Link to post

To me a remake IS a retelling of an old game's story - it's a new game with the old story, but with an entirely new engine, gameplay features, etc. What's a remake in YOUR eyes? 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted May 22, 2002 Well they're remaking the story but they're not "remaking" the game, they're making a new game from scratch, just with the same story in the background. Oh well, perhaps this is just a matter of one's definition of words... 0 Share this post Link to post

I still see former humans in the spirit of the old Doom game, I've seen combat armour (in the Macworld video) done with the basic concept of the old Doom games and I've seen surroundings which reminds me of the old Doom game. Goddammit, with your logic, Dune 2000 would be an entirely new game too, but it's officially a remake - RtCW has also been described as a remake of Wolf3d although it's "an entirely new game". 0 Share this post Link to post

What I mean is that DOOM64 "IS" the origianal id DOOM logo except that the word has been spreaded more outward towards the bottom of the word and the 64 has been removed and than replaced by the roman numerial 3. Funny that you've mentioned those gold plated double pyrmids on the original DOOM logo, always wondered what they suppose to represent. But looking at the DOOM3 logo, I assume that reddish overture covering the lower parts of the words suppose to be mars. So why the upper portion of the word is not outerspace? It should be. maybe id should fit in a small picture of the moon phobos with the "Stickney" creator shaded black, and within that black spot, put some tiny spec lights around showing that the moon is colonized. I'm talking about the drawning within the D3 logo of course.... 0 Share this post Link to post

So the story is a retelling of the old game, but what was the story in the old game - a page in the instruction manual and 3 little end-of-episode blurbs? That's a simple concept at best. Doom3 will actually be story-driven, as in, there's a story at all. 0 Share this post Link to post
