Blasphemer discussion

@Craneo, those are some interesting character names! Merewif sounds Germanic, Gwyllgi has a Celtic/Gaelic vibe and Strigoi is Greek (but somehow plural if yes)?

I just kindwa wish I had a name for the D'sparil replacement, was thinking of a Germanic last name, like, Count [last name] for the first form and [last name]'s Soul for the second form...
EDIT: edited the current dark elf into the Strigoi concept I posted

Hmmm... maybe, tho, how would the second phase be called? "Von Elend's Soul"? Graf means Count, right?
EDIT: I doubt I have the drive to finish these guys, but if someone wants to finish the concepts they have my go-ahead, the Strigoi and Merewif use Blasphemer monsters as a base, but the Gwyllgi uses the current Freedoom Pain Lord dude heavily edited and redrawn even...

What is the purpose of blsmptxt.wad? Should I load it alongside blasphem.wad? It doesn't seem to make a difference.

No, this is a old texture file,  all textures are included in the new wad

I was wondering... there are certain original monster sprite sets found at the Realms667 Beastiary, not based on any sprites from id Software or other companies, could they be licensed for inclusion in Blasphemer as proper monsters?

These include works by @Amuscaria (credited as Eriance):

Nightshade.png

Vulgar.png

And also sprites by @Vader:

WraithD3.png

Wraith (edits by @Captain Toenail)

I think the appearance and visual style of these is generally rather similar to at least some of the original new monsters found in Blasphemer, perhaps, if proper licensing can be obtained, something could be used instead of the current old Freed∞m placeholders?

Freedoom has some things drawn by Eriance already so these monsters could definitely be added. There's a few more Eriance/Amuscaria monsters in there like the Overlord and Hades Elemental that could be the Iron Lich.

Overlord and Hades Elemental

I omitted those because they are too similar to Doom's Cacodemon IMO.

I feel like the Vulgar sprite is too obviously based on the Imp, but the other five would fit right in

Probably best to ask @Amuscaria about the derivation and usage of any sprites from his mods, IIRC some of them used Doom sprites as a base and some were fully original and he was planning to release a pack that sorted out the ones that are safely usable in a project like Blasphemer.

If it's alright to do so, that would be good. Although, I think exclusiveness will still matter. I've never seen Freedoom monster sprites used anywhere else, before they showed up in Freedoom. But here, for example, I've already seen Fallen, Nightshade and Wraith in Judgment (2021) wad.

Would @Nmn's Hindring work well as a new Beast spriteset, if we are considering community-made original works?

if we are allowed to, here is a Blasphemer palette recolor I quickly threw together:

yes but its cc0?

Isn't CC0 basically Public Domain, in the "absolutely do whatever you want with it" sense? Is it problematic for Blasphemer?

@Craneo, that's an absolutely excellent find. I was aware of @Nmn's other work at OGA, but somehow missed this one. It could be a replacement for those close-range thingies from later episodes - Sabreclaws?

It could make a sabreclaw replacement, but that thing is so chonky that if someone can put a good rider on it, it could be the replacement D'Sparil beast.

Hello there,
while, yes, CC0 does not even require attribution, there has been cases where CC0-labeled content was derivative content taken from non CC0 sources.

As for this particular set of sprites, it seems to me oddly similar to the Doom3 pinkie...

But whatever, if someone can get in conctact with the author it would be best. Otherwise i'm not really opposed to the idea to put it in, just not for the sabreclaw if i may, as i like the uniqueness Bigprojectalone spritework add the the set.

Decided to give a rendered version of these vampire guys a shot to expedite work and make animation easier, these are indexed doom sprites but they have not had any paintover done (yet)

Considering that Nmn makes a ton of high quality custom sprites - https://opengameart.org/users/nmn - I am pretty certain this is safe. Especially since lot of his work on OGA, mods there don't let improperly licensed content stay up for long. So I'm pretty certain this is ok to use.

And I'm pretty sure the mutant dog is based on this model they made previously - https://opengameart.org/content/monster-mutant-for-fps-game

Several types of items are displayed as "NONAME" in GZDOOM. Is it a GZDOOM bug? GZDOOM 4.11.1 x64.
PS, E1M1 and E1M2 are also "NONAME", but E1M3 is displayed correctly as "Forgotten Stronghold".

Nope.

And what about the items? Some of them have no names as well.
