Oh wow, it's super cool to see how different people interpreted that splodge of pixels x3

 

I really love how some people made a cool moat with a bridge leading across, while others made a staircase leading up to the door for a grand entrance!

 

Most of all though, I'm interested that (EDIT: almost) everyone seems to have used the IoS marble texture up top and a BIGDOOR below...

The above three four posters should compile these into a community project. Each map different but with exactly the same start view.

What I wondered: what was the single bright orange dot in the centre of the door. Can't think of a texture that fits it. Unless it was not part of the texture at all, but the crosshair.

Actually, I didn't use the marble face. I figured it might've been bright brown highlights in a non-door opening, but nevertheless opted to go for a door texture as there's no way I could've guessed what was inside and that's the closest match in both appearance and use from that tiny postage stamp sized screenshot.

Must be some kind of sprite, probably one of the glowing hell decorations.

This concept ought to have its own thread dedicated to it, I'd love to see what different people end up coming up with.

i agree friend, it would be quite a neat and fun little game to play and then whoever gets the closest to the original picture gets $1,000,000

So, @AD_79's stairs were probably the most accurate.

I actually did use the IoS marble face, but it's hidden behind some vines.

And the mysterious glowey object was the pile of skulls and candles!

Ah, I was wondering when we'd get to see more shots of Struggle. I love the way you design and detail areas; it's a fantastic source of inspiration! I hope everything is well with you.

Actually, the tech-base levels of Struggle are all finished since the latest beta version. But yes. This level, for DMP2017, uses texture resources from Struggle because I wanted to make more tech-base level with them. I appreciate your playtester offer, by the way. :)

The purple one is basically the automap computer powerup to reveal the rest of the map. I used the different sprite to make it fit to the custom powerup SFX, which was from Doom 3 RoE.

No, and it's extremely cheeky of him to put the "new engine features" as something from the mod. Bloom, lens distortion, shadow maps, and ambient occlusion are the result of dpJudas' work on GZDoom. You'll find all that and more in GZDoom 3.0+.

 

I suppose it makes sense to put that in the trailer because Torm distributes a stand-alone version of the mod so for people outside the community but who follow this mod, it'll tell them the engine has been improved as well since the first release. However, it's still kinda dishonest. We gave Sgt Mark IV a lot of shit because people thought that stuff like mouse look came from Brutal Doom (instead of being engine features that existed long before SM4 even started modding); there's no reason to give a pass on Torm deliberately pulling the same kind of shenanigans.

Ah, FY1A.WAD. Nice map but the other one is better IMO. It also comprises the final two maps in WADPAK1, in a more sensible order (the first map, the one you posted, is a boss map, with the second map more like a lead-up to it...)

Not personally but I know he was involved with H2H/Mud (has many maps in H2H-XMAS for example)
