FireFish Posted December 3, 2014 Suddenly mappers appear with pictures of amazing looking doom cities. Do not doubt the possibilities based on the Iwad, look at the Pwads doing it ! 0 Share this post Link to post
joe-ilya Posted December 3, 2014 A rather classic looking map for nova. 0 Share this post Link to post

scifista42 Posted December 3, 2014 joe-ilya said:A rather classic looking map for nova. http://i.imgur.com/sWU4F1g.png It's okay. The only bad thing on that picture is CEIL1_1. There could also be another sky to better contrast with those brown bricks, this contrast looks rather unpleasant, specially since the default D2 sky isn't much beautiful itself. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Unregistered account Posted December 3, 2014 I think that rocky stalagmite should have a more gradient curve, or be replaced with a standard brick building - if it was for deathmatch, it would be really useful for players to hide behind or for players carrying Rocket launchers to catch out opponents who try to hide behind it in the corner. This shot actually looks really good, Joe! Though I would make the two crucified dudes on the walls different - there are two versions of that texture after all, and no two mutilated corpses would look the same (probably) ;) 0 Share this post Link to post

Be sure to let us all know when you get a thread going. Joe, I'd suggest adding some contrast to your level. Consider breaking up the brown walls and textures with something prettier. 0 Share this post Link to post

The positive feedback keeps me motivated, so thank you. It might be a while yet before i announce anything further, but if i keep a consistent pace it might surface sooner than i imagined. 32 maps are a lot though. 0 Share this post Link to post
durian Posted December 4, 2014 Looks good! I like the new textures and the way you've combined them. Some variation in the line where the building meets the sky might make it pop a little more - it's very straight atm. Oh, and what's this? 0 Share this post Link to post
jmickle66666666 Posted December 4, 2014 i'll take a look at making the roof edges more interesting, i tend to leave that til later because it makes changing the layout more difficult but i definitely intend to. that line is just part of the flat 0 Share this post Link to post

Taking a break from that BTW and working on DOOM Birthday wad. Well, you take place in a bar in that wad. Fitting since well, 21? Bars? Pubs? Anyone? 0 Share this post Link to post
Tango Posted December 4, 2014 @Six: that looks really nice, love the lighting :D jmickle66666666 said:img sweet. I've always liked maps that take what are usually support/trim textures and turn them into the main theme. also digging the orange! it's the new startan, as they say 0 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted December 4, 2014 Experimenting around with how dignified I can get TNT's Egyptian textures to look, ideally along side some of the Hell-type textures. I kinda think they have a charm of their own but they're fairly limited and I'm worried they're not gonna jibe with the other Doom II textures very well. Not too sure, especially with the last two of these... 1 Share this post Link to post

Not too sure, especially with the last two of these... I'd say they are pretty good, even the last two. Just be careful not to use textures that strongly contrast each other and it should look fine. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted December 4, 2014 @StupidBunny: Architecturally, I'd say that looks pretty good -- the trouble really stems from the textures themselves being rather poor-quality, rather than an overt stylistic thing. I'd bet if someone were to go through and spruce up the textures, those scenes of yours would look spot-on correct. 0 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted December 4, 2014 That was my suspicion. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for TNT's more garish texture designs but they can be problematic when I try working with them. Like the two textures in the far right of the last shot, which are different color and texture despite being presumably the same material. Also, the alabaster/marble/whatever pillars looked slightly better when I rotated them to exploit fake contrast, but fundamentally they are a little flat-looking. I still think it looks okay, and MFG38 didn't seem bothered either, but it could look even better with some improved textures. (Does there exist a pack containing cleaned/improved TNT textures? I think I remember hearing about such a thing a long time ago...) Your screenshots are looking better all the time joe-ilya. 0 Share this post Link to post
DeathevokatioN Posted December 4, 2014 Love the orange texture theme to bits, jmickle66666666, it's just oozing with atmosphere! Nice stuff as always, Stupidbunny. Also, it's nice to see Joe is improving. 0 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted December 5, 2014 Here's the same room with some minor adjustments. For now I've decided I like it enough to keep using the TNT textures unmodified. 0 Share this post Link to post
