We're not dealing with a Cosby situation here. He typed some foul shit that could have been avoided, but wasn't. Not really a big deal. Now, had someone actually died as a result of his posts, then yeah, the hate train might be somewhat justified. I only say "might be somewhat" because hate trains aren't particularly useful, period.

Well, well. Who would've thought a single, simple mod could generate such controversy? Yes, Mark has been a jackass (I don't support that guy), the mod is overrated (I think it's okay, I play it sometimes on maps meant for it, still feels like a different game), you can't see shit, but why don't we just forget about it... and talk about some crappy WADs? Something worth talking about now!... Like Terry... WADs... erm.

But anyways! From what I have heard, the only comparisons I have ever heard of is this:
Fatalities.
They may have been inspired by the mod, but it sounds like they're similar to Mortal Kombat's fatalities.

I don't think there's going to be over-the-top gore in Doom 4, and I don't think there will be an option to flip your middle finger at everyone and say one-liners-because-Doomguy-just-recently-heard-of-Duke-Nukem. If there was going to be large amounts of gore in Doom 4, just count on id that they won't make the amounts too massive for our tastes.
