Koko Ricky Posted March 18, 2015 I think it's a legitimate question to ask how many Doom wads/mods are out there, but we can't really compare it to any other game, because it becomes an apple/oranges affair. Doom mods range wildly in their content: weapon replacements, extra monsters, new maps (anywhere from one to dozens), conversions, etc. The size of each mod containing new maps also varies wildly. And if you think about it, the kind of user-made content for any game can vary wildly as well. We might be able to ask this question if the games we're comparing are relatively simple and the only user-made content for them are new maps and nothing else, but that's simply not the case. In other words, "What is the most modded game ever?" is far too convoluted a question to answer. Skyrim may have a shitload of mods, but how many of those mods are entirely new maps with hours of gameplay, versus reskins and extra quests (sorry for my ignorance, I don't play Skyrim)? I feel as though the quality, quantity and nature of the mod plays a part in how much it counts. Depending on how moddable a game is, the home-brewed content may be somewhat superficial. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
lazygecko Posted March 18, 2015 In terms of extra gameplay content with maps/dungeons/landmasses then it's safe to say that Doom has exponentially more content than Skyrim, or any other game for that matter. On the gameplay side the most popular and numerous mods are the ones that focus on revamping and expanding existing mechanics and systems. It's a shame really, since making new dungeon content for Skyrim isn't that hard (I made my first one to learn the editor in about 2 weeks), and the game is ultimately a glorified dungeon crawler, but in the end there isn't that kind of culture there to perpetuate it like the Doom community has. Just taking a casual stroll over the image gallery section at the Nexus shows that most people are merely content to dress up their female supermodel avatars with trashy pornstar names. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's not surprising since Skyrim attracted the most newbies unlike the previous games. It was like that with Oblivion nexus too, only Morrowind wasn't that way. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
