Koko Ricky Posted May 18, 2015 Sergeant_Mark_IV made some good points, and he clearly knows more about modern FPSs than I do...but I still don't think it looked terribly interesting. This was clearly supposed to be Hell on Earth, and it looked like it was trying to suggest as such, but a boner I did not get. This is Doom, for fuck's sake, and I was expecting Earth to look appropriate futuristic. Give us some kind of Blade Runner/5th Element/cyberpunk future with all kinds of crazy shit in addition to the demon invasion. What they developed was a more-or-less contemporary looking setting, including soldiers wearing already outdated gear. Outdated, 20th century looking, bulky gear, including gigantic fucking radios. It's stupid. Really stupid. Visually, I actually like what I was seeing (even if it was generic), but it did not convey that Doom-y feeling we were all hoping for. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted May 18, 2015 Yes, I've always seen the Earth in Doom setting very similar to the Blade Runner world. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted May 18, 2015 I really don't get the whole "let's make this obviously futuristic game look like the 20th century" aesthetic going on in those screenshots. Sure, Doom 2 had a lot of randomly archaic textures, but that is a flimsy excuse. It's like they didn't want to really put the effort into designing a unique looking world. If there is a Doom 5, I'm sure they'll have learned their lesson by then. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Death Metal 2000 Posted May 19, 2015 Hey, where did you find this stuff? It looks God awful, like they got Rage and set it in a destroyed city. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Hellgate London comes to mind, but seeing how that game got crashed and burned after the hype train made people play a broken game, I imagine nobody today even knows about it. Also, Kotaku seems to be stalking us. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Buckshot Posted May 19, 2015 Well Well Well... Looks like Kotaku has been taking a little stroll through the forums here. http://kotaku.com/doom-4s-earlier-scrapped-version-sure-looked-different-1705364162?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

doom_is_great Posted May 19, 2015 I find it interesting that the teaser came out like a day after this thread was posted. Probably had nothing to do with it, but I think it would be funny if Bethesda was like "Oh shit! They found the shitty scrapped version! Quick, we gotta put out this teaser!" 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Reisal Posted May 19, 2015 Glad that shit was not the real Doom 4.. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DooM_RO Posted May 19, 2015 I hope Id is reading this thread. This is pure crap. If I wanted to see brown I'd stare at my shitter. New teaser looks very interesting though. That riff reminds me of D_RUNNIN 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
LANEGRACABRA Posted May 19, 2015 Those leaked videos and screens look and feel NOTHING like DOOM. On the other hand, it's amazing how much DOOM the 2014 and the new teaser evoke. It seems like they got their shit sorted out. I honestly thought those screenshots are about another Metro or about rebel squads fighting oppressive government and some aliens slapped on top of it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
zzzornbringer Posted May 19, 2015 very hard to judge the game from a few screenshots but it does in fact look like a heavily scripted story in a urban, war like, environment. pretty much like cod, yea. what annoys me most is the fact that there's not a single demon. no fucked up, twisted shit. no blood, no gore. what's up with id? oh, yea, it basically doesn't exist anymore. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
snapshot Posted May 19, 2015 Is that really 2008 Version ? Holy Fuck, Call Of Half-Splinter DOOM ! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jaxxoon R Posted May 19, 2015 As far as I'm concerned, this is the equivalent of SEGA cancelling Sonic 06 and then immediately following up with Generations. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
geo Posted May 19, 2015 Game never finished, because Half-Life 2, Duke Forever, Legendary and Dear Esther want their tower objective back. That wasn't Doom. Its too human. Wow they were way off the mark. http://i.imgur.com/tVihlwb.png is the only screenshot not in pre-rendered cut scene? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Touchdown Posted May 19, 2015 Judging by everyone's reactions I think the conclusion would be that my taste is horrible because aesthetics of those pre-rendered cinematics are exactly how I'd want Hell on Earth to be. It's funny, everyone's complaining about 'gritty and realistic' while to me games are not serious enough. Everything's trying to be goofy and exaggerated these days. I feel like the current version of DOOM4 might not appeal to me, if they made it too silly. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted May 19, 2015 I'm going to reiterate my stance: It didn't look like the future. It looked like the present, with a lot more debris. There was almost no effort to make you feel like anything had changed in what was probably supposed to be the 22nd century, if the game was following Doom 3's canon. The worst part of it is the stupid bulky gear on the humans. The U.S. military is already developing more compact tech and exoskeletal suits, while this canned version of Doom was more akin to something from the 80s. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Avoozl Posted May 19, 2015 That reminds me a lot of Mass Effect 3's tuchanka mission in the shroud area. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SirKicksalot Posted May 19, 2015 This is the Doom that was supposed to run at 30 FPS on the old consoles because it had a ton of monsters. Just because it looked like Homefront doesn't mean it also played like it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

All we get is 32 shades of grey, lel. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

ClumsyCryptid Posted May 19, 2015 Concept art points me to think it was a guerrilla-warfare against demons, but I get the vibe of more Metro, and less Doom. This.. looks terrible. Hopefully the rebooted version looks better. Stupid Bethesda, and not showing the game on the Quakecon streams. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted May 19, 2015 Eh, looked sort of Generic. Could've been a fine game on it's own, but clearly not an actual Doom title. I wouldn't mind seeing this thing remade or re purposed for some future project. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
