Starkiller Posted May 13, 2018 My avatar is the default "Gina" female skin of Unreal Gold's Prisoner 849, because I thought it looked cool enough and because of my love for the game. Originally, my avatar was going to be a concept fan artwork of the Atreides Kindjal Infantry, but I changed my mind. You can see my original avatar enclosed here: 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's a shame it doesn't get the huge notoriety like Half-Life gets, but maybe being almost unknown isn't such a bad thing. Gives me more ample space to enjoy a game. Much superior than Half-Life all around, especially in the atmosphere, storytelling, art design, and music field. It still looks beautiful even after all this time. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) @Starkiller You pretty much nailed it. It also has some of the most balanced difficulty modes I've experienced in an FPS besides the original F.E.A.R. Medium isn't easy nor hard, Hard is hard but that's it, Unreal is very hard but not impossible. I never played on Easy but I'm going to assume it's just that plus boring lol, good for journalists. I still need to try the Epic-endorsed semi-official 227 fan patch that actually adds more difficulties (and renames Unreal to Very Hard), adds UT's decals, as well as allowing you to use the old weapon sounds again (Unreal Gold just copies UT's). Avoozl Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) I was really not a fan of how clunky the weapons can be and the majority of them being projectile based. The only real thing about Unreal which stuck to me was the music and sky boxes and some of the architecture, I was too late at trying it for the first time. I find it odd how you are basically saying it still looks as beautiful as ever when you're not using an actual screenshot from the game. Agreed. Unreal's difficulty levels are pretty balanced. I've played both the original and Return to Na Pali each on every difficulty, and the Very Hard and Godlike difficulty on the 227i Old Unreal fan patch. And this was all in the period of 2016-2017, since I couldn't beat the game back then as a kid. I always loved the botmatch mode and exploring the Single Player maps in the co-op mode. The 227 patch is really well done, works well for me with no problems. It even includes a soundtrack playlist, which is a plus for me since Unreal has some beautiful tracks. I also liked that you bought up F.E.A.R., another one of my favorite FPS. F.E.A.R. has some greatly balanced difficulty settings and still amazing to this day A.I. that actually encourages you to use some tactics and deception against them, as simply running with guns blazing is a surefire way of getting the player killed. On par with Unreal in my book. Edited May 14, 2018 by Starkiller 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I tried to upload an Unreal screenshot on here, but Doomworld cannot support bitmap images, which Unreal's screenshots run on. I didn't want to try to find a loophole or something, so I uploaded something here close as good. Also, Unreal fan art gets as much enjoyment as Doom and Blood fan art. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You could always try Irfanview. 3 minutes ago, Starkiller said: Also, Unreal fan art gets as much enjoyment as Doom and Blood fan art. This is besides my point though. Well it never occurred for me to do so. Next time I need to ask a family member for advice. I'm not a proficient computer expert, which I'll admit. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) There's online converters for this sort of stuff too. Just google "Bitmap to png or "Bitmap to JPEG" or whatever. :) Edited May 14, 2018 by Dragonfly 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Guest DILDOMASTER666 Posted May 20, 2018 I got this avatar as a commission from a guy named Katsuke I figured it was about time to update my Doomworld avatar to it since I use this avatar almost everywhere else. There's not much story to it beyond that 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Epic's team really put all the effort in exploiting every detail of the engine for Unreal), the first game I heard of having a female protagonist by default, huge open environments... but low poly count. As a matter of fact, have you played Unreal 2? It's a way way way way smaller game. (Also by my username you can tell FEAR is another of my favorite games too) And now back to topic: I think the funniest thing in this thread is going to be to look at old posts and try to make any sense now that they have new avatars :P Mine's from a oatmeal box from shub niggurath's dimension 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I actually like the dull grey environments of Deus Ex, since it adds up to the games depressing atmosphere. I played and enjoyed Unreal 2, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. It's more of a spinoff than a sequel, honestly. I have an obsession with the graphics, probably some kind of fetishism. I see your username has Jupiter in it, referring to the Lithtech engine which F.E.A.R. runs on. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Lila Feuer Posted May 22, 2018 Unreal II made me sad, I have yet to actually finish it let alone give it more than my 45 minutes of play and that was 3 years ago, it's just such a soulless and generic looking game with tech demo written all over it. Legend may as well of called it something else, because it is not worthy of living up the Unreal name. Also the player's mobility is shit, how are you suppose to dodge the Skaarj? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Unreal 2 is a disappointment, that I agree with you on. At least Unreal original had something going for it besides graphics, with a simple, but deep plot that unravels through, and decent gameplay. Legend also made the Na Pali expansion pack, and while it has it's fair share of letdowns, it's still better than Unreal 2 by a mile. The movement is fucking terrible, I couldn't agree with you more on. It's on par with Half-Life 1's slippery ice-skating movement, and I can't decide which one feels worse. I have the feeling that Legend crippled the movement to make the game seem longer. That is horrible game design right there. Oh, and dodging is turned off by default. Even the music feels disappointing, as there were only 2 tracks that gave me an Alexander Brandon/Michel Van Den Bos vibe. All Unreal 2 has going for is the graphics, and that's it. Honestly though, Quake 2 is worse. Unreal 2 at least had colors and some unintentional hilarity, whereas Quake 2 bored the lights out of me with dull orange-brown colors and muddy combat. Quake 1 is the only Quake worth playing, as the whole series went downhill fast. Edited May 22, 2018 by Starkiller 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
