WoW shouldn't be there

The list is called "Hall of Fame", I suppose it's meant to list famous and influential games, not necessarily the "best" ones from a critical/gameplay/other standpoint. If that's the case, WoW has its place there for sure.

I agree that WoW has its place there as it changed the MMO genre perhaps in the same way DOOM changed the FPS genre...

... but if the sole merit of DOOM is "introducing downloadable content" (which it didn't) then I'm sorry for the author's idiocy.

Maybe he meant those user-made maps/WADs? As they're still "Downloadable content", just not official and totally nothing like DLCs.

(Or maybe the distributing of Shareware back when DooM was out......? Well, I don't know, don't really care those such list shit, whatever it's Hell of fame or just pure someone's like list.)

Why is everyone saying that they added Doom there just for DLCs? It is also written in the article that it was a major stepping stone for the FPS genre, that it offered a great flexibility in modding, that it had a big multiplayer aspect to it, that it generated a notable discussion on violence in video games, etc. Enough of these misconceptions, ok?

Well, to date, you could argue that Doom has more "downloadable content" than any other video game out there. Keep in mind, downloadable content simply means content that can be downloaded, let's not assume it means something with a price-tag on it. If mods, in that sense, counts as DLC, then Doom can be considered as being a pioneer of the concept and having the largest library of it of any game.

The term itself has been associated with that but "downloadable content" can simply mean any content that is downloaded. It doesn't have to narrowly mean content provided by the developer for a price. It's like saying an app means something on a smartphone, even though it's just short for "application".
