It also does sadden me a little bit that just because he personally and a bunch of other people don't care for the game that they think their thoughts are actually true...no, people love the original Doom, just like they did 22 years a go. I can handle people not liking Doom, it's obvious it isn't for everybody, but to go on thinking that nobody likes it just because they don't is just silly and needlessly ignorant. Honestly, the two aren't mutually exclusive, ID is the one actually developing the game with Bethesda merely Publishing it so it's not like Fallout 4 developmental resources are being sacrificed in the name of Doom development. You can be excited for both of them, I certainly am. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

They're probably just Fallout fans desperately waiting to see the Fallout 4 announcement. Big deal. Exactly. They had to wait until the end, kind of like we did two Quakecons ago with the whole Doom 2 tournament and the stupid mini-games. Move on 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

They already ditched a crap design to give it a more classic DOOM story and overhaul, focused heavily on more monsters and swarms of them, and community standouts like BD, larger map designs unlike DOOM 3's narrow corridors... stuff like the ssg from the start. Modding and wadding and coop right out of the box. It wouldn't suprise me if they sat back one day while going back to the drawing board and thought "let's focus on what the community thinks of DOOM and what made it cool then, what keeps it relevant now and lets build from there to keep it cool for tommorow..." Am I wrong? probably. But that's just a improbability. Not an impossibilty. just my 2 cents 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
vtm Posted June 23, 2015 Some attention at least, I bet they had a guy looking in the forums and reading some of the doom 3 rant wrote in the forums, or at least to check about the InstaDooM. But the ultimately proof would be to find some impse in DooM (2015). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

FireFish Posted June 23, 2015 They probably did some dead normal marketing research unrelated to the ego of ancient fans. Stuff like ; - Dissect the Gameplay and design of the original games ; check. - Read why players really liked the game ; check. - People really liked colored lighting and atmosphere ; check. - Multiplayer must be a big deal for doom ; check. - Map making must be easy ; check. - Read a bit of Hardcore fan complaint and praises ; check. To then find a way to sell this rejuvenated concept in a way they wont go bankrupt. Modernize to much and the hardcore fans have a mental breakdown, make it to elite and dated and everybody would undergo a mental breakdown and the company could lose millions of dollars. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I've met some fanatic Fallout "fans" and they're always like "OMG PART 3 AND NEW VEGAS WERE THE BEST", but when you try to get justification for the opinion in the form of comparison with former games (I've completed FO1, FO2 and FOT so I can talk about those) it turns out they have never even played the isometric ones... I haven't played FO3 and onwards, but yeah, I'm not really convinced to the product having witnessed its audience... though I could say the same about the majority of Brutal Doom fans and I really enjoyed the mod :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

IMX Posted June 23, 2015 I know for a fact that they might have read at least ONE thread from here. Romero knows about Doomworld, and at least three other game developers too. There has to be at least ONE person inside the modern id software team that KNOWS about the oldest Doom forum on the internet. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It does not even matter if those people played the ancient 2D rpg's or not. they are fans of the modern full 3D reboots. People can be gigantic fans of MODERN continuations , and they do not need to justify themselves to weird hardcore minorities stuck in 199?. Just as if people might become hardcore extreme fans of Doom 4 and think its the best game ever named DooM... It is not up to some freaky guy stuck in 1993 to force his way upon them and make them like or play that extremely ancient ugly thing from way back when. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

They KNOW about Doomworld for sure - it would be some sort of game developer malpractice for them to not know about the largest extant fansite for the game series they are making a new installment of, which also happens to be one of the longest running dedicated-game-enthusiast websites on the internet. I just don't think our half-formed, often contradictory opinions and ideas are of much value to them, and rightly so. If Doomworld has influenced the creation of Doom 4, it's the fact that a dedicated community still existing for a 1993 game (and the lack of any long term community for its 2004 incarnation...) lends credence to the notion that the game has some very specific aspects that have enabled its incredible longevity, and the new game would do well to emulate those. Then again, id's original concept for Doom 4 was the widely maligned Call of Doomy, so... draw your own conclusions. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vorknkx Posted June 23, 2015 I've been a member of many online gaming communities over the last 15 years, but none has proven to be as persistent, creative, friendly and flexible as the Doom community. Look at it - 21 (and a half) years later it's still alive and strong. How many others can say this? Just a little example - a while ago there was a "war" going on in the Descent community due to having two different source ports. Apparently, that is "too much" for them to handle. I wonder what they'd think if they could see the number of active source port projects for Doom. Other communities I've been a part of have either fallen apart or devolved into chaotic bunches of people who do nothing but shout expletives at each other all the time, regardless of topic (so any real communication becomes impossible). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

roadworx Posted June 24, 2015 Holy shit, dude...That's deep. We're just empty shells; not even human. Just...dead inside. We float about, making our homes on the web. We're robots, just going through the motions like we're supposed to, but we have no personality, no feelings other than fear and pain. A void. We're just a void... Either that, or this guy is just full of shit :/ 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
JasonWanderer Posted June 25, 2015 Just to put it into perspective... I've been a DOOM lover for years, but I've never joined the Doomworld forums. Sure, I've been on here, but I never actually joined the community and yet here I am. The community is still growing, so anyone who said it is non-existent has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. That being said though, how many of us here can say we just started getting into DOOM after playing a ton of modern games growing up? Probably not many, to none at all. The truth is, most of us are here because we've been playing and modding DOOM for years and years. No modern day gamer wants to be part of this community. So we do definitely exist, but at the same time (in a sad way) we're dying out slowly. ~ Jason 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
