horselessheadsman Posted February 6, 2022 Continuing my effort to make Strife robot sprites more usable in Doom, with the Reaver this time. Version 1: Besides removing the Order emblem from the back and adding an attempt at a pre-firing sprite, this one is mostly unchanged. Still uses Strife palette colors. Spoiler Version 2: Mostly converted to grayscale so that it can be converted to Doom image format for color translation. Spoiler Version 3: Colors changed to green and gray, not in Doom palette colors though. Has an alternate firing sprite since the tan flash from the default looks odd on green. Spoiler Version 4: Colors changed to green and gray, intended to be converted to Doom image format for color translation. Looks rougher then Version 3. Has two alternate firing sprites, one with only yellow flashes, and the other including changes in light level. Spoiler Something to remember if using these sprites is that the Reaver uses four sprites for a single step(then reversing to take the other step) unlike the one-two steps of most Doom monsters. ShallowB Posted February 6, 2022 (edited) I thought DrPySpy's gargoyle did a really good job of accomplishing the goal of looking like a plausible cut Doom enemy. It fits right in with the rest of the roster. Neoworm's edit seems to have more of a Heretic vibe to me, I bet it would be great for maps featuring castles or medieval themes. I've started working on a Mecha Zombie from Doom Eternal, using OSJC's Possessed enemy as a base. Still trying to decide if I'm actually going to give him robot legs and cables and stuff. NeoWorm Posted February 6, 2022 Original face nicely fits withing the beta resources with the more clumsy Lost soul and imps. DooM's visuals kinda evolved between beta, DooM 1 and DooM 2. In DooM one quite a few enemies were kinda cartoony - Imps the most, than Pinkies and Cacodemons. But in DooM 2, whose enemy roster is used more than DooM 1, most enemies kinda lost it's cartoon visuals - Revenants, Archviles, Arachnotrons and Mancubi are much less funny looking. It hardly feels worth it for such a small sprite. Whenever i think of how detailed Eternal's designs are, i thought using the collectible toys as reference would help to simplify some things. Edited in Paint.NET to remove the white background and all converted in Slade to match Doom's color palette and the variants supported by Slade (Doom, Doom 1024, Doom 32in24ctf, Doom Arcadia, Doom BTSX, Doom Demon Eclipse, Doom Discolored, Doom Graypal, Doom Mapgame, Doom PalPlus, Doom PSX, Doom Sabbat Martyr, Doom Sapphire, Doom Saturated, Doom Simplicity, Doom SpaceDM9, Doom UDM3, Doom UDMX & Doom ZDCMP2).
