ShallowB Posted February 19, 2022 I think Don Ivan Punchatz was probably just illustrating some generic demons, maybe partially inspired by some early Doom concept art, or maybe a vague description of "demons, but in space." They don't really match anything in the final game, but sorta look like a weird combination of the Imp, the Baron, and the Cyberdemon. Looks like I picked a good time to pick this up; that sculpture looks awesome. Maybe we'll get some nice 360 pics of it and we can recreate the sprites the old fashioned way! I kinda agree the heads are a bit big. They looked okay on the original front-facing sprite, but the rotations I've done have a bit of a bobblehead look to them. And believe it or not, these are actually a little smaller than my first attempt! Might have to shrink them by another pixel or two.
