Loadouts

Just put it this way, the more people we can get to stray from CoD and every other damn military shooter the better.

Why? What does that matter if the game we're trying to draw them to is basically CoD anyway? Doesn't that just hurt players who want to play games that aren't CoD?

As for the loadouts, everyone needs to chill. The MP is literally at alpha stage and there's obviously going to be alot more thrown in from then to now. Lets not bust out the pitchforks yet. Far as we know loadouts could be a team based thing only with traditional DM being just that. Or maybe loads are included in all modes but there's still other weapons to pickup. We really don't know what changes they'll make.

This is what they decided to showcase though. This is what they decided to show every news outlet "this is what our multiplayer is."

To be honest, loadouts in MP aren't that big a deal because most players usually stick with 2-3 weapons anyway. In the case of Quake, it was rocket launcher and railgun. Everything else was secondary.

In the case of Quake 3 you use the lightning gun for finishing a target when you have an obvious health and armor advantage, rocket launcher when you're generally brawling before anyone has an advantage, railgun when you're behind and need to take some health off of your opponent at range with hit-and-run attacks, grenade launcher when you're retreating, plasma rifle was flexible and either good for mid-range brawling and retreating, shotgun when you'd use the railgun but in really tight maps, and the BFG whenever you have it (which isn't often in duels for obvious situations). Every weapon is used.

This Is Yes. But this Is what people fail to understand, the new DOOM Is In beta, the final product will be lots better and more stuff will be added. It's just sad that not every DOOM fan doesn't realize this fact, I guess some are just stuck In the past I suppose.

It's not yet in beta because otherwise i would be in it already. It was now stated that all who pre-ordered Wolfenstein, get to participate on the beta, however while the alpha is where names are only randomly selected from list of customers who pre-ordered Wolfenstein. It's now in pre-alpha as said by them and it's now the right time to criticize anything that isn't really wanted in an doom game anyways, because at this stage is still possible to revert things but when the game hits beta (getting close to release) it's alot more difficult then anymore to make changes that affect on way how the whole core gameplay works.

Reason pre-alpha exists, is to still be able to make significant changes without estimated release date suffering from them.

You're suggesting that DOOM MP is a CoD clone? Because what, loadouts? Come on man.

Yes they gave us an idea of what the core gameplay will be like. Doesn't mean changes wont be made in the coming months.

I never said other weapons weren't used, I said they were secondary to rockets and rails. Lets not kid ourselves, that was the primary staple of every Quaker. The rest had uses but were put on the back burner once you got one of the aforementioned. That's fact.

You're simplifying that way too much to a point where you remove the entire meta game of Quake.

A simplified description would be as follows.
The core weapons of Quake 3, 4 and Live are LG, RL and RG. That's the holy trinity for agressive play, different players will favor different weapons in this triage.

The GL and Plasma is used more for control and spam.

The plasma and shotgun is also often used for when you don't have any stack and need to defend rapidly from a spawn. They both got great DPS and can you make good hits, you can rapidly take down any opponent who isn't fully stacked even in a close combat.
But it's always a bit of a gamble.

Machinegun and rail is also used for long range combat.

The gauntlet is used for whenever you get the opportunity really.

All the weapons got their place, Quake would be less of a game if they weren't all present. Except for the BFG, which is irrelevant.

Let's not forget almost every Doom MP map spawns you under an SSG.

Because most people who made DM maps hasn't actually been competitive DM players. But rather casual players who want to have a fast and not too taxing game play. The maps that actually is played by the competitive circle, doesn't really have this set up. At least not back when I was somewhat involved in it.

I gotta agree there, though I've got a feeling that after those changes they'll release It early, but I think they're rooting for the 2016 Release. I guess the Mulitplayer Alpha Is a way of saying "Well, Here You Go. You get to try It out, forget the God Damn Beta already!", It just feels so wrong, yet so right? Eitherway, I'll be disappointed If they don't let people play the Alpha.

Im kinda mixed about this. I was kinda mad at first, but now that i think about it, loadouts are a great way to ensure you don't get overpowered as soon as you respawn, so yeah, i really have no problems with that, it's better than starting with your crappy peashoter hoping to not get fragged while you grab something better.

However, i do have a problem with the 2 weapons limit. why limit the amount of weapons you can carry? I really hope that they don't keep this stupid limit in the final game

I never implied that they didn't have a place in the game. Again, I said the rest were secondary, not that they weren't used.

Yes everybody, its obviously all a conspiracy to attract the cod and battlefield players, because those players are really used to playing arena shooter style multiplayer games.

I'd say the only "conspiracy" is to try to appeal to Quake 3 and Quake Live players, as that's quite an established existing multiplayer community. Though the fact that mobility is drastically reduced ("no strafe jumping") will probably kill that fast unless id was soliciting a lot of feedback at QuakeCon.
