VGamingJunkie Posted September 8, 2015 No way, the 32x's soundtrack was way better. Such beautiful instruments. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dave The Daring Posted September 8, 2015 I wonder if that printer that Doom was ported to had music? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Personally, I'd sooner whip out my PS1 copy than load up Classic Complete on the PS3. But that's just an opinion. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Well, I'm not too keen on the original MIDIs, but I can live with them, and I actually love Aubrey Hodges' ambient music. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted September 9, 2015 Calling dark ambient "so-called music" is an excellent way of telling people, "Yeah, I don't really know what dark ambient is." 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I tried making an ambient track back in the 90s. My brother had a small bedroom studio. Alas, this project ended up along side all my other failed sonic experiments. I'm just not cut out for music. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted September 9, 2015 ambient is difficult to make. it's not like e.g. where you can plop in a guitar, bass and drums and it'll work because that's such a tried and true combination. ambient's based around the instruments and sounds you use to make an aural landscape, and that's trickier than just going and jamming on whatever instrument. i've tried doing a few ambient songs, but it's a bit harder to come up with ideas for it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted September 9, 2015 Ambient comes in interesting flavors. Dark ambient, space ambient, ambient techno, drone, chill ambient, etc. I've made a number of ambient tracks and it's a very subtle procedure. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

So true. I've seen people say that the PSX Doom music is just random noises thoughtlessly mashed together, and that's just completely wrong: it's no more random and thoughtless than any other style of music. Sure it's less likely to appeal to a wider audience, but those kind of criticisms are just nonsense to me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I spent years trying to make even half-decent dance music back in the 90s. I failed. Easy it was not. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jaxxoon R Posted September 9, 2015 Distant, echoing guitar plucks and somber voices murmuring about material possessions and ideas. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dave The Daring Posted September 9, 2015 Well Ambient Americana is a thing. Sounds like it could be a little bit country. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm not sure how you'd plug a printer on another printer, though, because I'm pretty sure the printer with a screen wasn't a dot matrix. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dave The Daring Posted September 10, 2015 It was a Canon Pixma inkjet printer. Are you suggesting that we force an inkjet printer to have sex with a dot matrix printer just so we can have a version of Doom on a printer that has music? Spoiler Do it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Job Posted September 10, 2015 It could be argued that PSX Doom was more significant than the original Doom itself. We should be celebrating its birthday instead. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaronOfStuff Posted September 10, 2015 I wouldn't go quite that far, but it's certainly a shining example of how to port a game (without just being lazy and shit about it) while making the most of the target system's capabilities in the process, to essentially give it a style and identity of its own. Compare to PSX Hexen. There is no reason to play this over the PC version at all. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
vinnie245 Posted September 10, 2015 I thought the soundtrack to PSX Hexen was slightly higher quality but yeah nothing other than that :P I also like ports that do things different to be unique yet still remain true to the original game, what's the point in just playing the exact same game on a different system. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
