The Cyberdemon

Doom's monsters are supposed to be fucking grotesque. From the gangly archvile, to the obese mancubus, to the fleshy revenants, the monster roster is known for its extremes, as well as its sardonic, morbid parodies of humans. That aesthetic simply isn't present with neo-Doom's cyberdemon.

And dark and evil. This cyberdemon just doesn't do it for me sadly. Since when is he a rock dude? Lol I'm definitely ALL FOR trying new things and NOT FOR a copy and paste remake the old game into a new engine or anything like that. It just doesn't feel right to me :\ Oh well, the rest look friggin' awesome IMO

I don't mind the design of the cyber-demon in this one, it does seem fitting & all with the theme of it. The original design, definitely is the best so far. I agree with megamur, they need a deadlier adversary in this one. Something, that would make the cyber demon look like a grunt in hell's forces, compared to it. I'd say, an icon of sin in a mechanical suit, based off, doom's original bestiary. :-)

They could take the spider demon & make it into the final boss, but the cyber demon, SD & IoS, have had there spot-light in the previous games. But it depends on how far there going to take this series. If they decide to make DLC or expansions, they're probably going to save the IoS for later & come up with more final bosses. ;-)

In my opinion, I'd be cool if they had the IoS as the final boss for this one, mother demon for the 1st DLC, & then that grotesque creature from jenesis or something along those lines for the 2nd DLC. Then whatever else for the 3rd, if they decide to release that many. Who knows, what the third one could be!? :-P

Great topic, I'm sure the monsters will look deadlier as you progress farther in the game. Let us hope ID or a kind modder will address these issues. Have a great day all! B-)

In brutal doom ?
Or something else ?

Yeah the post for it should be somewhere in this forum too. You might be able to find it on Moddb. So srgt_Mark pretty much made a separate level to replace level 30 with his own creation. It involves a giant demon being the Icon of Sin shooting various projectiles at you, screeching large harmful screams and summoning various demons.

It is ideal to play it with Brutal Doom, possibly required.

This kinda sounds cool. Imagine if they did this new Doom in episodes? The cyberdemon has absolutely had it's time in the spotlight and I don't think for a second that he's gonna be the main boss by any means, and maybe that DOES make looking at him a bit easier. But if they do happen to make it an episodic-type game, even though it'll more than likely be DLC/Season Pass material sadly, I'd be about that :)

I think the Cyberdemon looks like a demon straight out of Dungeons and Dragons, having a Revenant, Mancubus, and Cacodemon next to It gives It that feeling. Remember, the Cacodemon WAS Inspired by a Dungeons and Dragons monster.

I think comparing THIS to the Cyberdemon, the Cyberdemon wins. But I love the new design personally.

I just can't ever see this picture without imagining a paper cutout of a cacodemon sprite was glued on top of this artwork; id practically ripped the head right off for its design (and added a backdoor)

I know what you mean "Wheresthebeef", the creature doesn't even look right with a body. Like it's out of proportion or something. I guess I'm just too use to the Cacodemon and these look exactly alike.

I wonder if the artist of D&D ever played Doom and saw the Caco.

Most of it works for me.

The Cyberdemon just doesn't. It literally looks like a monster that would fit right into Diablo. The "cyber" part of the Cyberdemon seems really downplayed, actually. Maybe that's just because it seems like they're playing up the fusion of flesh and metal in the monster roster (and apparently, the plot itself) to a much greater degree. Either way, the cyberdemon design in Doom IV does not please me. The classic design still holds up, and I think they would have done better to start closer to that and work their way to an update from there.

This.

I don't know, in the original teaser I was excited about the new cyberdemon, but then once you saw it in game it just looks so stupid. It's too fat and hunched over close to the ground. In the teaser it looked taller and more slender like the original cyber. Unless I'm just imagining that. But I definitely didn't like how it looked once you got some light on it in gameplay. I hope iD notices all the backlash from fans and redesigns it, although I'm fairly certain that's just wishful thinking.

Here's a QuakeCon screenshot.

I think this Is the better place they could've done, or If they planned a third part of the gameplay reveal. But I think the Cyberdemon and other Demons look amazing here.

I'd actually like to see a perfectly executed IoS as the final boss.

I really like the concept of the IoS but it was poorly executed in the original IWAD. Maybe with the old engine limitations removed, they can actually have a giant demon that can only be damaged by shooting his brain try to directly and indirectly kill you.

They certainly look much better without the yellow filter.

I almost wish Id didn't have such reverence for the cyberdemon. I'd actually like if the cyberdemon in Doom `16 would finally be "dethroned," and a new, even deadlier demon would be introduced. Something more complex and cunning that would make the cyberdemon's simplistic, brutish stomping and shooting patterns seem antiquated.

It's called the Archvile.

Now that you posted the Balrog I have no question Blizzard stole its design for Diablo 3.

The Blood Thirster of Khorne is the OG in design:

And before there was Diablo, Blizzard had this guy in Blackthorne:

Oh, what's that? Things are yellow under a yellow sky and not yellow when they're not?
You don't say?

Because everything outside on Earth right now must be blue because the sky's blue, right? XD

What the hell is that pink blob behind the Cyberdemon? I thought it was a Manc, but it looks really different. Pain Elemental? Seems to have arms and a wide mouth?

I know, right? I was confused when I caught It, I was thinking It was a bunch of people smooshed In the wall, but It looks deformed and It's floating. It might be a Pain Elemental.
