Remember, the Cacodemon WAS Inspired by a Dungeons and Dragons monster. http://i.imgur.com/3nypKrT.jpg I think comparing THIS to the Cyberdemon, the Cyberdemon wins. But I love the new design personally. Holy shit, that's the Cacodemon... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted February 20, 2016 Rumor is that the Cyberdemon isn't even the final boss in Doom 2016 anyway and that a certain arachnid creature will be appearing... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

rampancy Posted February 20, 2016 OpenMaw said:Most of it works for me. The Cyberdemon just doesn't. It literally looks like a monster that would fit right into Diablo. The "cyber" part of the Cyberdemon seems really downplayed, actually. Maybe that's just because it seems like they're playing up the fusion of flesh and metal in the monster roster (and apparently, the plot itself) to a much greater degree. Either way, the cyberdemon design in Doom IV does not please me. The classic design still holds up, and I think they would have done better to start closer to that and work their way to an update from there. i think cybie is an essential part of the beastiary, but i do agree on your point about the fusion of demons and tech. in doom the cyberdemon was almost unique for being that fusion of hell with tech, and as the sequels have been released, there have been several variaties of "cyber demons." still, gotta love the cyberdemon although the scale of the creature may be slightly absurd and the design a bit cartoonish these days. on a side note, id like to see a morphing demon like john carpenters "the thing" that you chase for a while. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

How do you know? Have you ever seen a real Cyberdemon? For all we know the original Cyber was a false model built for artistic purposes. Rock Golems may exactly what real Cyberdemons look like. Just wait until we die and go to Hell, then we'll see how accurate this Cyberdemon is too the real thing, bigot. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
RelentlessCT Posted February 20, 2016 I'll put my 2 cents in... Personally I like the Cyberdemon's new design, It gives off a feel that he is more then just another foe, perhaps even more then just another boss, from what we all have seen, I feel that he has been given a little more character then the rest, and is something important like a proper rival for Doomguy. That being said I still completely understand the people who dislike the design, It is a rather drastic change from his original look, everyone's opinion is valid, hay some are gonna like it some are not, I've been playing doom since the original shareware (wow I'm old) and I really like not just Cyber's new look but the look of the game as a whole :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

RUSH Posted February 20, 2016 The Cyberdemon in Doom 2016 looks like a big cuddly reindeer monster. Would make a great plushy for little boys and girls. The Cyberdemon in the original Doom games looked badass. Actually suited the name "Cyber" demon. Had the mechanical leg and arm that made intimidating noises as he walked around. Plus he was ripped as shit with big bulging Arnold Schwarzenegger muscles. The Doom 3 Cyberdemon was awesome as well. Even taller and with all sorts of creepy mechanical wankery going on. It was great. Doom 2016 really gone screwed up Cybie though. Poor Cybie. He may never be the same cool demon again. He's gonna get picked on by all the other demons. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

RUSH Posted February 20, 2016 Xerge said:And now that you mention Schwarzenegger I should say that I always pictured the cyberdemon being like some sort of giant Terminator from Hell. Yeah same, I always pictured him that way as well. He was basically lean but also strong and intimidating. One of the main problems I have with the new Cyberdemon is how wide and fat he is. Doesn't look agile whatsoever. Almost like he has to waddle around to move like those big bosses in World of Warcraft or Runescape. Original classic Doom Cyberdemon looked agile like he could sprint super fast or climb walls if he chose to. Like Terminator. He was a grade A badass. Then he got out of shape and really let himself go. I mean c'mon Cybes. Get your shit together man! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xerge Posted February 20, 2016 He should also be more like the silent type but angry type a cold blooded killer, he doesn't need to roar at you like "look at me I'm a big fat and heavy monster" to intimidate you and he knows that, he can see it in your eyes, you are prey and he is the hunter. When someone is calm while fighting you makes him more intimdating, because he shows you he is not afraid of you. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Actually in the teaser they do manage to portray him this way pretty good. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xerge Posted February 21, 2016 Since I'm inspired because I just saw the teaser again I'll say a few more things: The cyberdemon is someone who is WAY TOO sure of himself, he is the alpha demon and he knows he is, he doesn't need to brag roaring and crying out loud like a child, he knows that his merely presence is enough to make you shit your pants. He is angry at you, but not because he is afraid of you, he is angry at you because he find you repulsive, you are like an annoying bug that should be exterminated or terminated, which ever you prefer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted February 21, 2016 I'm kind of having an issue with his proportions, because his bottom-heavy legs and wide jawline are very much in line with the way a lot kiddy cartoons and toys tend to look. The characters have these legs that spread out, resulting in huge feet and "heroic" contours. Much of the Doom '16 roster--the ones that are vaguely humanoid, anyway--tend to have more realistic proportions. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I personally don't feel we know him well enough to get these impressions just yet, but I respect the imagination there. For one thing, him being notably intelligent seems up to debate. Could be more like a fairly dumb animal. Said with respect of course. Speaking of animals, is a lion roaring "crying out like a child"? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

In the original Doom novels, there's a part where a bunch of SMMs try to kill a cyberdemon but it runs away, and the narrating character comments that she never thought something so big could run so fast. Of course he can run fast! Look at those fuckin muscley legs! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Speaking of animals, is a lion roaring "crying out like a child"? I agree, I said that based on the first gameplay trailer. And the cyberdemon being too sure about himself isn't precisely something very inteligent to do when he is facing Doomguy, but it's all about the attitude that makes him badass and intimdating. Some would say that lions and other animals roar because that's a defense mechanism, the cyberdemon doesn't need to roar to defend himself from you. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
victorboris1 Posted February 21, 2016 The new Cyberdemon looks like something conjured up by Joe Madureira for the Darksiders franchise. I can see his art all over it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xerge Posted February 21, 2016 I even like this a bit more, it's probably made by someone based on what you can see in the teaser trailer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The antlers still look dumb and goofy like a reindeer but the face, jaw and eyes are way more intimidating. Body looks better designed. Overall that looks more like a demon terminator that wants to kill you and less like a bad Fisher-Price parody adaptation. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xerge Posted February 21, 2016 If this new "cyberdemon" makes to the final game I hope it's just to appear on a scripted sequence where you come across him stare at each other and then suddenly a real cyberdemon appears and destroys him and you never get to see him again. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted February 21, 2016 The image xerge posted is a good example of what I'm talking about. In that instance the cyberdemon looks "real" instead of like a toy because the proportions aren't so extreme. This isn't a deal breaker for me--I'll play the game regardless--but I feel like the artists don't realize that "toy-like" and "over-the-top like the original" aren't the same thing. Look at the depiction of the demons on the original box art; it's another example of how the game looks cartoonish, but mature. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
