DooM_RO Posted October 26, 2015 How was the Revenant? I really liked his WaaaAAaaaah! sound from the trailer when he killed an enemy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DemonSphere Posted October 26, 2015 I had a lot of really close games, racked up 32 hours total lol. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Optimus Posted October 26, 2015 It was kinda fun. Like a mix of Unreal with the difficulty/speed of Quake 3 (I had hard time hitting anything at first). Although it didn't show me much about Doom 4 itself. I would prefer a single player Alpha. p.s. Funniest moment for me was when I accidentally rocket launch a member in my team, then he starts chasing me and rocket launching my ass many times (but there was no friendly fire damage). I wasn't sure if he was a noob or just very angry at me accidentally shooting him :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The word you are looking for there is "Beta", and it is coming later. Did anyone else have pretty bad ping/connectivity issues toward the end? When I first played it was solid as a rock but on sunday evening I was seeing a lot of lagged out players teleporting about and several "Wait for server..." messages as it resynced. Made it a bit unplayable. This is exactly why they are testing this stuff, though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I did notice, however, fluctuating movement speed. I think they had different servers testing different speeds of movement, as sometimes it felt like I was moving a bit slower, then later that day, felt like I was moving faster. Was very interesting. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Didn't really get the waiting for server message but I did a bit of stuttering here and there. Other than that the game performed nearly flawless all the way around. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I thought that too. Also near the end of the test more. Thought it was just me getting used to it sometimes, and others I felt like it needed to be faster again. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Zemini Posted October 26, 2015 Only got 12 hours of game play in ;-( Damn wife! Damn dog! Anyways I hope there is another test soon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDeAD1313 Posted October 26, 2015 Lol same. Now its back to work 😞 I wish I could look forward to a few matches after I get out. Guess I'll have to go back to some old school doom. Maybe try and get on some Quake 3 games actually. Anyone here still play? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Buckshot Posted October 26, 2015 I still do Quake 3 regularly, MrDead... but grab ioQuake3, its a soruce port that fixes a lot of bugs and graphics options and keeps it updated for Windows 7/8/10. I can toss up a server once I get home on my zandro box. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDeAD1313 Posted October 26, 2015 Awesome! I'm usually on the PC around 11:00pm est during the week so I'll meet you on steam and go from there? Can't wait 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain Toenail Posted October 26, 2015 Well I played about an hour of the Alpha and I didn't find it all that gripping to be honest. Let me put it this way, if you are a fan of Quake3, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Fan of Halo? it will be more up your alley. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDeAD1313 Posted October 26, 2015 I dunno about that. I played the first night and had mixed feelings about it. Talked with a few other alpha testers that night and shared our concerns which were honestly pretty major concerns. Next day I had more of a feel for it and was more convinced that its doing things right. The more I played the more I was pulled in. By the time the alpha was over I was completely hooked. The way it plays and the feel of it makes me more convinced of SnapMap as well. Obviously its very limited and disappointing in the way of single player mapping I personally feel that SnapMap is gonna take off. Especially in the multiplayer map making scene. This isn't your daddy's Doom for sure. I wish I could discuss what makes me think this way, but I firmly believe this is going to be pretty well received by Doom, Quake and modern shooter fans alike which may be one of the strong points of the MP. Nothings gonna be Doom and Doom 2 again which I accepted years ago. But this is going to fit right into the Doom legacy comfortably without an ounce of doubt 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tritnew Posted October 26, 2015 Nice, glad It's gonna possibly be the best DOOM since the classics. Nothing will beat the classics, but this new DOOM Is gonna take off, that's for sure. From the gameplay trailer after the reveal, It looks like the Plasma Rifle has a different design, kind of like the one In Multiplayer. I'm guessing that the weapons are gonna be like the ones In the Multiplayer, I could be wrong. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Buckshot Posted October 26, 2015 I'll admit, the first hour i was in a "hmmmm" state of mind then I started figuring things out, pushing on, and then it clicked. Listen, this is completley hypothetical, but if the end result of the MP ends up being like Quake 3 or Unreal Tourney on steroids, sign me right the fuck up. If it ends up taking inspiration and becoming a spiritual successor to those early esports arena DM games... that's awesome. Because let's not bullshit ourselves... Quake, UT, hell even Halos traditional multiplay is some of the absolute best out there to this day. All of those games were inspired by one another, and by prior early DM games like DOOM/DOOM 2 is where their roots truly lay. Why not take that, blend it all in, plus take it to the next level so it's a successor that pays nods to its past while really rocking the future? And long as it ends up nothing like Quake 4 MP or COD, I don't see how it could go wrong. And thus far, if I had to choose between the current in-development UNREAL TOURNAMENT rejig, and what I experienced in the alpha.... No question, future DOOM'S multiplay everytime. I don't mind the multiplay being what it's shaping up to be. In fact, I prefer it. So long as single play is focused entirely on what it should be... DOOM. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrDeAD1313 Posted October 26, 2015 Nothing beats the last hour or so of the alpha. Everyone was packing those servers and going balls to the wall fuckin ape shit in game! Such a good finale. Can't wait to do it again!! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SuperCupcakeTactics Posted October 26, 2015 Man, I missed it. I tried playing it saturday but as soon as it started the Bethesda logo intro it slowed down dramatically and froze over and over. Bummer ;-; 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I do know if you clicked anything during the loading screens in the beginning it would grey out and say it wasn't responding. Just had to wait for it to finish and the game would start. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted October 27, 2015 It sounds like a ton of fun. Gotta say I'm really excited for this. Sucks not to be in it, and it sucks that I might hold my bar too high. I'll have to keep things realistic and wait for it to come out. Sounds awesome! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Bummer ;-; The first time you boot the game up on a system, the Beth and id logo videos ran like dogshit. It's obviously doing something in the background there, and the best advice is to leave it alone until it gets to the menus (it'll ask you to agree to the various terms and such before you get to the main menu). Once you get past that first time the videos play smoothly and everythng goes normally. I realise I'm saying this after the fact but hey, advice for next time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
