Ty Halderman Posted February 15, 2000 I don't have a problem with there being a forum, though I do think it needs some good topic threading. I do like the comments on the news items, but then again they go away after a few days. I know I can delve into the archives to see if there were any updates, but that's a lot to ask. I will say that a nice additional feature would be if the comment counter on the web page would say if any of the comments were from today or not (or last 24 hours). I've been tempted to actually write down the counts so I could tell which ones had new additions without going in and out of all of the comment links. 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted February 15, 2000 Bah, it's easy enough to click the link and see if there are any new comments... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Levendis Posted February 15, 2000 Y'know, I agree with Mordeth's reasons for deleting things, but I am starting to see a couple of problems. First is that some of the conversations get kind of disjointed when there are responses to a comment that no longer exists. Second, since we're starting to use the comment system for discourse, it's kind of iffy when someone deletes half of a conversation. A message board would really be the place for that sort of thing--a conversation between two people that other people can get in on. So, I'd say, either get a message board, or change the posting rules on DW so that we can use it as one when the need arises. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest balanco Posted February 15, 2000 I have no problems with forums as long as the comment threads aren't done away with. I would also like Doomworld to have a section on their main page links back to previous threads whose news stories are no longer on the front page. Yes, all of the previous comment boards do still exist, and you can access them by entering the number of the discussion thread between comments/ and .shtml, but the conversations tend to die an instant death when there is no longer a link back to them. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest cocoon Posted February 15, 2000 I think that is my first feel about this. You can still post whatever thoughts and comments you have here. It will probably turn into a flameboard after a while when everyone has asked what everyones fav-wads and ports are... I think it is easier to see the topics here and go from there. I know that there are no comments on most updates but it still the most, in my opinion, interesting way of solving this. Keep the threads! 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest DarkFang Posted February 16, 2000 DN already has a forum. Why should DW have it? I mean, its not like DW *COPIES* anything from DN or anything. Hey, you guys remember that poll idea DW had a while back? 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted February 16, 2000 Yep. Again, I don't think we need a forum on DW. It doesn't make sense to have two. However, if there were to be a POLL set up, just like there is on DN, that would be great! :-b 0 Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted February 16, 2000 Dont waste your time, it won't get used much anyway. And it would mean I would have to modify my forum browser *again*. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Anonymous User Posted February 16, 2000 A forum would be a welcomed addition in my opinion... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Stealthy Posted February 17, 2000 A forum would be cool if people would be mature and use it for disscusion, not fighting and stupid shit like that. All I see in the comments now, is people getting pissed because some one said some thing that got some one else mad.... And that is dumb! If people can act civil I think its a good idea..... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest FyrestormX Posted February 17, 2000 Threads, polls, forums, its all good. Hey, why you reading my comment, you sad basrad? hehehe... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest pagb666 Posted February 17, 2000 I think that the comment threads are enough 0 Share this post Link to post
fraggle Posted February 17, 2000 i believe its true that doomnation will only set up forums for projects which _it_ is hosting, therefore making one for doomworld might be something useful.... hmm 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest mancabus Posted February 17, 2000 Itd be cool, VISIT MY SITE OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If its on here, 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Anonymous User Posted February 18, 2000 3d imps made from basic shapes own you! 0 Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted February 19, 2000 Well, DN sets up forums for the basic topic discussions, like the ports, and hosted sites can get their own forum there too if they want. Although Billy's Doom Forum, etc. perhaps would be overdoing it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest saint Posted February 20, 2000 Yes, I think a forum is necessary for DoomWorld, it is a good addition to the system you have now. -Saint 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Levendis Posted February 21, 2000 Ok, I'm gonna run a statistical analysis to determine whether or not DW ought to get a message board of some sort. This is where you tally up the numbers and try to see what the probability is that the community wants a board (depending on how many people answer, it could even go 50/50 and still have the community wanting one). I'll have the results in a couple days. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest pix Posted February 22, 2000 whatever, open a forum if you want...not like it's really needed though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Chief Posted February 23, 2000 Arlo mentioned a "brand new forum system" in one of his early posts... maybe it's something to do with that... 0 Share this post Link to post
