I said I would, and now I have: I tossed up some forums. I'll continue tweaking and adding stuff for the next few days, but I figured, what the hell. Post your little hearts out.

I think it's important to have both. The news topic comment system, the one I'm using right now, is good for talking about daily events. It's good. We shouldn't get rid of it. The Doomworld forums are good for a variety of discussions. Perhaps the ones not making news. You see, they both serve their purpouse. That's all. :-b

I agree completely that there should be a direct way to comment on the news in addition to the regular forums, but I was saying it's strange that THIS VERY forum exists since its about another set of forums. Get what I'm saying? :)

I would definitely rather use Doomworld's forum. It's a popular site. Hey, that's an understatement. It's the most visited DOOM site in existence. I also certainally hope the swear words get beeped out. It's not censorship, since swear words aren't necessary to voice your opinion. We'll all know what the culprit said, anyway. It's much nicer to not have to look at the bad words.

It's a ripoff. FunkyMonk didn't even get one day of use out of his forum, when doomworld puts up one that's 100% identical. All of his efforts are for naught just because of this. This is nowhere near fair, and 98% of doom people are shrugging and looking the other way.
I am deathly sick of the monopolizing in this community. I already left #doomroom because of two or three complete assholes who I will not name, but will merely say I'm very upset at.
Besides the fact that I'm infuriated, and for the basic principles, I also like FunkyMonks's forum better because of the doom-related icons.
Is what I'm saying reasonable?

So you like FunkyMonk's forums better...then use them! It's not like FunkyMonk has an unspoken privilege to have exclusive use of his own forum design. If there is, what is it? A week, month...years? It happens to be a great design, and FunkyMonk is well received for said desing. But it isn't copyrighted or anything like that. Besides, would it be better if Doomworld used a CRAPPY forum design? What's the use in that?

yes, doomworld is a monopoly, it should be broken up into several different companies - Doomworld News, Doomworld Hosted Sites, and Doomworld Forums. (sarcasm for you slow people)

No i dont. If theres an interesting topic on either, ill return to that thread. I really dont give a damn about the url. And even though Dooworld is obviously going to get more posts simply because of its popularity, it really doesnt matter where the forum is, as long as its there.

That's right.. It shouldn't matter what the URL is for the forum. It's for the whole DOOM community. Still, we should give FunkyMonk the credit he deserves, because if it weren't for him, the Doomworld forum wouldn't be up right now.

As for Hyena, I don't blame you for quitting #doomroom. They can be pretty nasty in there at times. I haven't been in there since November, myself.. :-b

The comments thread has not been rendered useless at all. It's still available right next to the news item and allows for people to discuss the topic in a direct manner rather than shifting through dozens of topics that will eventually fill the forums.
