Guest Viper Posted November 27, 2000 Wow, my map actually made it in the second wad, I feel special. I think that there should be a megawad showing the worst 32 levels submitted, if not more than just laughs or to see just what kind of crap people put out. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest noway687 Posted November 28, 2000 Any chance in playing the "worst 32 levels"...guess not 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted November 28, 2000 It might be interesting to see how many maps by people who reckoned their map "owned" and was far better than the 1st 32 ended up in the last 32. Of course it could be with the quality of the entries for this competition, the worst 32 could be pretty damn good too. And maybe not. Only one way to find out. 0 Share this post Link to post
Adam Hegyi Posted November 28, 2000 Congrats to AdamW for getting a spot in the 2nd megawad :P 0 Share this post Link to post
geekmarine Posted November 28, 2000 Very cool, I really liked MAP31 of 10secto2.wad, although the transition from black and white to color was weird. I just love slaughtering Nazis, almost as much as I love slaughtering Demons. BTW, I have a suggestion for the next contest: How about a dehacked contest, where the goal is to make the best darned dehacked patch you can. Of course, that is too broad, and will almost certainly need more boundaries than that, but the overall idea sounds good. Yes, I know that with DDF and stuff dehacked is basically obsolete, but we owe so much to it (Aliens TC, Batman TC, pretty much any TC made before EDGE came out) that I think it's about time we gave the old hacking tool some respect. 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted November 28, 2000 BTW, I have a suggestion for the next contest: How about a dehacked contest, where the goal is to make the best darned dehacked patch you can.The only problem with such a contest is that I would destroy everyone singlehandedly, since I am the Dehacked master. I had shit working for ID4DOOM that you can barely dream of. The only Dehaxors I would consider better than me were the dudes who made Aliens Doom 3 and Batman Doom. 0 Share this post Link to post

Guest The Gemini Posted November 28, 2000 The next contest should be a LMP contest. Forget about Dehacked and grafx contets... i wouldn't be able to participate. Anyway, a lmp contest would probably have as many entries as the 10sector contest, and there would be no judging as the fastest lmp would win :) Giddy up! 0 Share this post Link to post
geekmarine Posted November 28, 2000 Well, I'm glad I got such a quick response, and I REALLY apologize for that double post, dang Netscape. Anyways, I guess it's better that we don't do it if we already know Linguica is going to win... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest The Gemini Posted November 28, 2000 Map31 was pretty cool, i liked the thing with the entire level bein black/white. It was simple but i liked the idea..map32 was..nevermind. Another idea for a contest, would be for max 4 people to set up a team, whoever they'd choose, to make a 8 level wad, 2 maps for each member. No new exe file, but they could have new grafx, music, and whatever... This mind never stops workin... 0 Share this post Link to post
stphrz Posted November 28, 2000 Yeah, but Ling wouldn't be eligible to win seeing as he'd be running the contest and all. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest pagb666 Posted November 28, 2000 This is nice, my two level got released in this second wad... (map17 & map21). Thank you ppl who like map21, it took me just 2 hours to finish it, anyway I think that map21 was just a bit short, I think i should have used 3 more sector to make it larger... too late now :) There are some nice levels in this second wad!! 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted November 28, 2000 Heh Really? Well you forget about some other dudes like Gokuma wich made some really mad dehacked stuff. Another person is Oniko who made one really fierce weapon for Nimrod. (Yah, you're gonna love it) Jon have also made quite a few cool patches like his gib patch. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted November 28, 2000 I think the next contest could be create just a new Final-Boss with dehacked, that replace the Cyberdemon (without new sprites, to give all the comunity a chance), may be using de traditional map 32 of DOOM 2, for a quick encounter with the monster, and to give all the same chance (the victory only depend on the deh-monster, not in editing a new). 0 Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted November 28, 2000 Oops! I forgot a word "the victory depend in the deh-monster, not in editing a new level" That is my idea for the next contest. 0 Share this post Link to post

NiGHTMARE Posted November 28, 2000 The levels are in order of how good they are, so yes, most of the first 20 or so levels in the second WAD aren't that great. The final few levels of the second WAD, in particular map27, are certainly better than some of the early levels of the first WAD,. 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted November 28, 2000 From 10secto2.txt: Also, the levels in this WAD are in no particular order, so don't expect a progression in size or difficulty as you play through it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Drakker Posted November 28, 2000 Hmmm, I see in the text file that they are listed in order of wads (01 to 05). Isnt that the order you received them? If so, it would explain why the lastest levels are slightly better, cuz the authors (just like me, map27) prolly used more time to polish them. Althought, in my case, a few more days would have been welcome. *grins* Oh, and for the next contest, what about a 3d modelling contest? Pick a monster or the player and make a model. I understand that not everyone are able to make 3d models (I dont know anything about it myself). But I think it would help the doom ports a LOT. I dont have anything against the current models, but they are getting old, new ones would be welcome. Else, I'm always ready for a deathmatch level contest, my 10sectors map was the first single player level I ever completed. *grins* 0 Share this post Link to post
Linguica Posted November 28, 2000 Heh, everyone has their contest ideas for me... * Art contests * Modelling contests * DM level contests * "Most sectors" contests * "100 linedefs" contests * "Make a level starting with a base map" contests * E1-style level contests * Texturing contests I already know what the next contest will be... it'll be a pretty easy, informal one. After that I am not sure but I do have a GREAT idea... 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Deertag Posted November 29, 2000 Thanks for posting the judges comments on my map. My earlier post looked a little harsher than I really intended. A bad habit of mine. AndrewB said what I have basically said. Not the greatest, not bad, has outside shot at megawad. Mordeths comments about the monster total is a matter of taste I suppose. It's just part of my admission that my map needed extensive finetuning (better use of monsters, amount of ammo and health, adding in some additional detail, maybe skill levels) but I ran out of time. That was my problem, not the contest's. However, If my map is not impressive due to 350 monsters, a mixture of types in each combat area, how the heck do maps make it into the megawads, both 1 and 2, that feature a room with 10 revenants? Kill them and go into another room with a dozen mancubi? Kill them and go into yet another room with 8 or so Barons? Some maps have had like 3 cyberdemons in one room!!! etc, etc... And these are square rooms with little detail. I guess it just appears that inconsistancies ran thru the judging. And I'm not ragging on the judges! They didn't have an easy job. Looking thru 138 maps would probably make me go blind. :) I have said and still believe that the contest was great and well done. Many, many maps are really impressive and quite frankly, I'm a little envious of the talent out there. I guess the bottom line is I'm just frustrated that circumstances kept me from putting more time into my map, and it showed. Not to mention my own expectations were a little high (unrealistically?) for my own map. Thanks again for your efforts in the contest and for your reply. 0 Share this post Link to post
stphrz Posted November 29, 2000 Oh to be able to go back in time, so you know then what you know now :) I too ran out of time. I essentially started my level nearly two weeks into the contest. Even then I dragged my ass until the last couple days :P Some of the levels in the first megawad must have taken a 100 hours or more to make. I think the judges could tell which levels were the product of considerable effort and which were not. Like you said, a lot of the judging came down to personal taste. If a third megawad is released, I'm sure there will be some who think there are levels in that one that should have been in second or maybe even the first. 0 Share this post Link to post
wavelength Posted November 29, 2000 Am I the only one having more fun with the 10-Sectors-2 .wad than the main one? Then levels are better. 0 Share this post Link to post
Drakker Posted November 29, 2000 The level are not as impressive technicaly as the levels in the first wad, but I really think that the gameplay is better in most of them. Maybe gameplay should have been more important in the judging? 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted November 29, 2000 I think as a general comment I have found the first 32 better looking but the secon 32 more playable too. But there are some kick ass levels in both, from both points of view. 0 Share this post Link to post
Risen Posted November 29, 2000 I used WadEd for my 10 sectors level. But you really have to know what you're doing. I did some messed-up DeHeckEd stuff for Twice Risen, mostly with the weapons. I've done other stuff too. I think that would be fun. I'll have to go find my Code Pointer list again... :) Boy, if I went back now and tried to edit it I'd probably be totally lost... 0 Share this post Link to post
