I wouldn't bet on that video card lasting that long... The hardware T&L engine would probably be outdated by then. As I understand it, T&L support is all-or-nothing; either the card supports everything the game tries to do or the cpu does everything. The second generation of T&L engines can probably do useful stuff that the first generation can't, so support for them is iffy.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know about the reccomendations, because I haven't ever had the pleasure of being below the SOTA mark. ::sighs:: I know this just sounds so terrible of me to say this, but geez, I feel like I'm missing out here or something. Mmph.

I remember when UT came out and everyone was like, OH, MAN, THIS GAME IS SO HARD TO RUN!...
I never had problems running UT. At well over 1280x1024, 32-bit color, and maxed-out detail. The textures choked my 32MB card at the time, sometimes, but usually I ran well over 90 FPS. Just me, maybe.

I try update my computer every six months or so, whether it needs it or not, just so I can stay SOTA (which is state of the art for all you non-shadowrun players). Even if I didn't, I really don't think I need to, considering that I'll be SOTA (or close to it) for awhile, and my system will be at least viable for 2 years. Those of you who are wondering what it is, well...let's just say I love my daddy very much. *wink*
