I recently, ahem, "acquired" Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Pretty cool program, certainly better than the crappy Midisoft Studio LE that I used to use.

Well, you can try Melody Assistant. That's what I use :) You can find it on the Web.

I've been using Cakewalk Pro 5.0 for all my MIDI stuff. Only problem is, I have the demo, so I have to save any songs I make into MP3's using my CTK-601 (which is also how I converted the Kill MP3's). However, Cakewalk is very cool. It provides a staff (or multiple track staff) where all you do is click to insert a note. I made 14 songs like that already.

Which raises a question: Is there any freeware like it?

Those Cakewalks are the most sadistic, impossible to use programs besides DEEP. I paid for Professional 8 and the damn thing didn't even have a manual, just a CD. Haven't played with 9 yet but I would assume it's just as big of a pain as 8.
