Dima Posted August 28, 2000 Was it a good decision for Carmack to support only Opengl?? 0 Share this post Link to post
stphrz Posted August 29, 2000 Well, it sure made it easy to port id's games to several platforms like the Mac and Linux. That's the real advantage Opengl has over Direct 3d. You aren't a slave to Windows... 0 Share this post Link to post

Guest Sir_Fragsalot Posted August 29, 2000 This means that you'll need a Silicon Graphics computer to play DooM 3 without any graphical glitches. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Ancient Warrior Posted August 30, 2000 Teppic said:Yes. It was a wonderful move. Open GL is the most advanced graphics API and is capable of rendering the fastest and most beautifully, and its also good that id decided to go from glide to that since glide is horribly limited graphics wise. Silicon Graphics Institute is the standard of CG graphics, and ID is the standard of 1st Person Shooters. So I think its a great move. Direct 3d also has its advantages, but I think Open GL is best. 0 Share this post Link to post
