elbryan42 Posted March 11, 2001 Well, I woke up this morning and found some games in the upload dir of my ftp. I removed them. Let's get this straight. My ftp site is NOT a warez site. It does not and will not have any full versions of games. I don't want the site shut down. If this becomes a habit, I will shut the site down myself. Consider this a warning. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted March 11, 2001 Maybe you should give only certain people access. 0 Share this post Link to post
SaGa Posted March 11, 2001 ya giving every one the power to upload will only coze trouble...i mean its like giveing everyone in the world the nuclear launch codes for usa's nukes 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest fraggle` Posted March 11, 2001 somehow i dont think you can compare the ability to upload pirated games with the ability to destroy entire countries and kill millions of people... 0 Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted March 11, 2001 I'm gonna agree with fraggle on this one 0 Share this post Link to post

KING ELVIS Posted March 12, 2001 Hey, the music from your site is also pirated ! That means that you don't be allowed to make it public available. Believe me...one time I asked id's CEO to be allowed to let other people download my PSX music stuff. That is what they said: From Todd Hollenshead... It can't be redistributed without a license and legal review of the contract. In short, I can't grant permission for that. Sorry. 0 Share this post Link to post
elbryan42 Posted March 12, 2001 Hmmm... well I knew that copyrighted audio CDs and full versions are illegal (thus I don't have the Bobby Prince Music CD online). I'll have to think about those mp3s. Thanks for bringing this to my attention man. Also, if you'd like me to pull your mp3s from my site, since your name IS attatched to them, I'll understand. I just don't want people pirating games and cds when they could just buy them anywhere. By all means, download games from wherever you want, just leave me out of the loop. We'll see what my concience tells me. If the mp3s do leave, I don't mean to cheeze anyone off, I just wanna do this by the book. The people from ID worked hard on their games. Let's not rip them off! The games aren't THAT much. And if anyone is wondering what was on the site there was Keen 1 and Keen dreams. OK, those are shareware. Keen6 and Wolf3d however are not. You can still buy these from ID, and for next to nothing. 0 Share this post Link to post
KING ELVIS Posted March 12, 2001 Hehe, you can leave my name where it is. I have absolutly no problem with that. BTW: I think it makes no difference if you have pirated games or music or whatever. It makes also no difference if the software costs $666 or $1. For the criminal law it's equal. It makes only a difference for civil law when they sue you for the action of damages :-) Example: They sold 10000 copies less, because of your ftp... 10000 x $1 is cheaper than 10000 x $666. However, don't worry ! Since your ftp isn't a real homepage with 1.000.000 visitors a day...and you don't take a fee...they have no interest to blow you away. In closing I should add that your site is considered legal, a warez site. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest Fanatic Posted March 12, 2001 If you're using IIS or similar webserver/FTP server you can filter what files you accept in a certain directory (such as .MP3). You could also make an upload only directory so you can review what's being uploaded, then move it to a download only directory once it's deemed ok/legal. 0 Share this post Link to post

If the FTP Site was removed, then *sniff*, no DOOM 64 MP3s to use that are in full length for my TC. I can't live without DOOM Port MP3s you know! 0 Share this post Link to post
