When is warez warez?

If you know someone has been playing doom2 for a long time and know they bought the game. If they break the game cd, isn't it legal for them to find a download on the internet as a "backup resource"?

Look, no one cares what you do privately. If you want to email some guy the Doom2.wad or give him a link to download it somewhere that's your business. Registered Iwad files are distributed illegally all the time. Ling and Mordeth don't want anyone using the forums to advertise the transactions so to speak. Whether or not the situation you describe is legal, again, who cares? Just don't bring the subject up on this or any public forum.

Could be tolerated if you have the original bill...but the illegal resourcing is punishable...so if anyone offers warez downloads...could you plead for ignorance ?
In fact and in my opinion, if you own a bill and / or a broken "real" copy and you resourced it from private - no problem. Where no plaintiff ther's no jugde ;-)
