Some Duke3d levels are well designed most are not. I don't really think the best Duke3d levels look any better than the best Doom levels. I don't really like a lot of the textures in Duke3d anyway. Besides the build engine can do fancy things like
slopes which ZDoom cannot. You can also put a lot more detail into a level made for Duke without as much slowdown as would occur with Doom. As far as architecture(sp?) goes the build engine is still a ways ahead of Zdoom. Zdoom has other things going for it like scripting though. Have you tried out Darkening E2 yet? How about the Gothic DM series. I could go on and on. These levels kick ass all over most Duke3d levels.

I know all that. Visual editing lets you do more complex things, When was the last time you saw a real object in doom? e.g. a 3d chair. I saw one in de2 that alright but that was it. Trust me levels will improve with an editor that has visual editing done the right way.

What attention span? Go to the top of this topic and -reread- what was written. No surprises for me:)

I mentioned GDP, you mentioned "profit and loss". Umm - what parts did you forget?

I didn't take anything the wrong way or in the wrong context. If you/etc are so damn right, explain yourself. Copping out with innuendo is a farse.

To write that I think I'm "superior in some way" is also a cheap copout. Gee, then you must think you are superior in some way, eh? What you need to learn is to have a rational discussion and not come into the room with a giant grudge. Drop the chip on your shoulder and give objective facts - not just flame material.

My only points where these:

1) The amount of money for an editor has nothing to do with "age" of a game. Your $ argument was made 5 years ago - cheapness only - LOL. (p.s., its $29 - what else do you pretend to know about?)

2) Whatever you do for fun, it's a hell of a lot more fun when you have quality tools to work with. (e.g, PSP is worth registering)

3) Decide for yourself - ignore fanatics:)

Charging for an editor in a community soley supported by the foundations of the GPL is a really really bad idea. Well not bad, just capitalistic and anti-spirited.

You mentioned something about paying for Doom is a rip off because they have made a large profit off it already because I said charging 30 bucks for an editor for a 10 dollar game is absurd. You are the one who mentioned GDP which has essentially NOTHING to do with any of this.

But forget it anyway. It's obvious you won't see things my way. By the way, you saying that by me promoting old editors I'm actually hurting Doom, that is total bullshit. Just thought I'd say that.

Explain how I'm hurting Doom by promoting old editors and you are helping by overcharging for your editor? Give me an answer to that question and do not skirt around it like you've been doing. I don't want any damn comparisons or metaphors or anything. Answer it straight out without bullshitting me. Please.

That comment is so dumb it makes my head hurt and I just want some explination. Then maybe I can sleep easier.

Pretty sick. Idiot, it's one thing if you come to the forums to clarify some misunderstanding, bug, or whatever in your program... but throwng rubble over other's hard work (that they did because they love the game, and offering it freely) in order to sell your stuff here REALLY sucks. And then you reply in a bitchy manner to the guy who's monitoring the site... Quit this and act in a decent way, go back to work; people like to put their money where it's worth. If you act like an asshole you'll certainly be seen as one. Are you so desperate that you have to act that way? It's a good thing id made (and sells) DOOM, but from there on making stuff for the game is for those who enjoy it. If you don't understand this, go away.

You epitomise the doom community there- misreading something and flaming it like mad.

Hahaha, <cough>BULLS**T! Using DeeP to make levels instead of waded is like using notepad to code a site instead of a simple program that has simple toolbars for everything (note the word 'simple'). Aside from WadAuthor, DeeP has the most timeconsuming and impossible (for me) to use drawing system; I can do a level in waded with all the crashes and errors and bugs 3 or 4 times quicker than in an error-free DeeP. You should try it sometime.

[forgot quote]

Heh Im on your side argument wise but leet people use notepad/plain text editor to 'code' HTML so that argument is flawed.

Hmm... now I'm considered a "type" character, that doesn't bother me, and saying that I'm flaming probably makes sense (though I can't feel guity), I do wonder about

> misreading something

Misreading is actually natural, and to a certain degree happens all the time, as language itself is by no means transparent. But if you mention it you must consider that I'm reading something that's way out here, yet I don't catch what you see.

Ah, yeah I know, if I knew raw code I would probably use notepad over any windows-based designer kits too. But that's when stuff tends to get more like work than fun.

Anyone see the need for a new, open source, editor built on a cross-platform windowing toolkit?

Any volunteers to code one? :P

Frad.

I think its because sheep's wool contains a large amount of oil and other natural chemicals which makes the animals water resistant and hence shrink resistant when out in the open. When wool is processed to manufacture such products as jumpers I believe such chemicals are removed and the wool fibre becomes prone to shrinkage. Also because sheep are made up of other materials than just wool, like blood and bone, it is not likely that a sheep would shrink in it's entirety.

Why? It's because wool on a sheep isn't stiched into a sweater the way the wool on a sweater is.

WADED + Limits removed + Better line/sector special handling + External WAD support + Port and mod compatability = My dream level editor.

Other stuff in there would be cool too, like 3D previews and dynamic offset tweaking and a real node builder, but it's all stuff I can do fine without.

'nuff said.
