I think Alex went a bit too far with ap_006. I mean how do you take on 20 million revenants and tomatoes with next to no ammo? (not to mention the imps at the end). I guess it was more intended more for speedrunners rather than 100%ers like myself. It still looks nice though, and it's still a good wad.

I notice that the next one will be ap_007.wad, so I wonder if we'll get an appropriately-themed map? (ie. a secret base or enemy hideout)

I think it will be slightly easier when they're all combined into one big wad. That way, you will have at least something else to start with besides that ol' pea shooter.

Just got done watching a demo done by Rich Sham, of the excellent ap_006 wad. I am amazed he lived through parts of it. Nice Job!!

It is very much worth the time. 100% All, about 56 minutes. Recorded on Legacy v 1.32, beta 4.

Anyone who can live through that map, is a better man than I. Hope he doesn't mind my post.

That was Rich, he has successfully recorded a legacy demo of my last level without too many problems. I've appreciated his feedback over the last month or so. Congratulations to him, hes a nice guy and a great doomer.

It took me a while to find it at the archives(It is a Doom Level and not a Doom II Level) Unfortuantly it wasn't really worth my time trying to find the level since this level is fairly poor IMO. Don't get me wrong, its a great first effort, definatley better than mine IMO. However it is very easy to see that this was the Authors first map. He has obviously spent alot of his time experimenting with the various tricks and traps the Doom2.exe can do but with no overall theme. I personally would like to see the author make a new level since I feel if he manages to stick to a central theme and adds a bit more detail he could become a good level designer.

1) Sorry for not mentioning it was a D1 level.
2) IMHO, the 'theme' was the fact it is based on a physical place taken over by Hell. Not the most exciting theme, but that's what I was working with.
2a) My actual 'first' level is horribly unthemed. I never released it, but went ahead and stuck it in the CUIT level. It's where you run around chasing the red key.
3) I definately used many doom.exe tricks; from 1-wide 24-high steps to invisible bridges. It was probably overkill to cram so many in a level, but I just had to try them out. I don't think they interfered with gameplay.
4) I thought I paid very good attention to the level of detail and lighting. I used lighting gradients in several places to simulate, eg a torch light.

Also, so I know for later, could you please tell me your impressions of monster/ammo/health balance in the level?

Those warriors, for me, are actually an incentive to upload my next wad on a Saturday at midnight... :) *Virgil immensely enjoys such encounters* Seriously, though, I'll try to upload my wads on weekdays.

P.S. You're really good at describing DM maps. I like seeing good info on all the maps, not just the SP ones. For me, visiting doomworld is much better than manually sifting through all those levels in the ftp directory. In fact, that's what I used to do, 'till I found a nice lil' url called "www.doomworld.com" when searching for wads on Metacrawler..
