Ancient Editors

Since the release of the Doom source, many projects
have been undertaken to enhance the graphics and playability of
the Doom engine, however it seems the Doom editing community
are still using tools that have been avaliable for longer
than most of these projects have existed. I find Wintex and Wadauthor to be rather unstable, but unfortunately these seem to be the only decent Windows-based editors avaliable - With the exception of DeepSea, which as an occasional Doom-editor, I am not willing to pay for. It would seem fitting, that with so many new and modified Doom engines avaliable to the Doom community, some new editors be created to support these enhanced features.
Simply changing an existing program seems only a half-measure.
As I could not even begin to create one of these programs,
I can but hope that some Doom-maniac will eventually step forward
and make a decent -stable- editor to support these modified engines.

You call that ancient?

I use dmgraph and dmaud with batch files, damn it. Nothing is faster. As far as level editing, I use DETH/HETH/ZETH/LETH/whateverthefuckETH.

Yeah, I'm also and "old vintage" guy. DEU, and now DETH. Heh, not to mention that I use doom(2).exe unless the map asks for a specific port!

I remember using old editors like that - ah trusty dmaud.
And in the case of original doom/doom2, I heartily agree.
The old editors are sufficient.. and dont crash all the time.
I find using recent / older editors for newer
engines a pain. I suppose really my main complaint is Wadauthor.
I use it for BOOM, although I suppose there are other editors
that support it. For original Doom I would use an older
editor like Edmap - Yes I know, everyone seems to hate
this editor, but I found it useful for a long time.
Not version 1.40 however. It seems to be unstable also.
My other complaint would be the inability to easily do
some things in Wintex, which if I think of it, were
actually more easily done using a command line editor.
I also find that Wintex often incorrectly places P_START P_END, F_START, F_END etc etc, when moving large amounts of data around.
I am using version 4.3, I do not know if there is a newer version.

I dont really know why Im complaining, my /doom directory
is about 1500 Meg, some good editors should be in there somewhere.
