Guest NiteScare Posted June 23, 2000 I LOVED the music in Doom 2. I thought it was extremely well done and it fit into the game perfectly. The new Doom should have erie music at the right times ( or the right levels ) and action-type music at other times ( i like the idea of black metal like someone suggested, but DO NOT overdo it, and cut out the vocals of course ). I just love haunting melodies when you are in those dark corridors in Doom. The music played a large role in creating a Doom atmosphere, in my opinion. Let's hear some replies people. 0 Share this post Link to post
Hellbent Posted June 23, 2000 This has been a major topic in this forum. Many people agree that the music played a big part in the atmosphere. I definately agree, and am hoping Robert Prince does the music again. I think the balance of eery, atmospheric music to metal music (e2m3, e3m8, e1m1) was very good in DOOM. I liked DOOM 2's music, but didn't think it had enough tunes like e1m7, e2m2, e1m5 and e1m8 especially. DOOM music was definately better than DOOM 2. 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest nitsud Posted June 23, 2000 Go to www.mp3.com/wasserstoff and listen to "systemleben"... the beginning sounds a lot like something you might hear in a Doom level. Doesn't stay that way for long, but see what you think. *finished wasting my breath* 0 Share this post Link to post

I think Bobby Prince should make the new Doom3 music since he did the original Doom and Doom2 :) IceMaker 0 Share this post Link to post
Guest PUNISHER Posted June 24, 2000 If you have Final Doom listen to song 26/16 in the TNT episode by using the idmus code,it's kinda scary IMO (well most of it).I believe that the music did play a large part in the atmosphere as well. 0 Share this post Link to post

Guest Antaran Posted June 24, 2000 I think black metal it's not good idea for doom3, because 10 beats of drums per second is too much for most people. I think Doom Metal is correct for new game :). It must be something slower for building atmosphere. If someone want fast music I think something like Six Feet Under:Haunted is great for Doom3. If you disagree don't be angry. 0 Share this post Link to post

Charon Posted June 26, 2000 I posted this a little earlier, but it might be worth posting again. Here's an idea I had, and if it sounds retarded let me know. (I am sure you will. ;-)) MS released a program a few years ago that basically made music from mathmatical algorithms(or something like that). It was called MS Music Composer. How 'bout using a similar process to create dynamic music generated on the fly as the mission progresses. This would be somewhat like Unreal where the music changed depending on the current situation, but maybe a little better. This would allow level designers to add in triggers such as "Cue Spooky Music" or "Cue Industrial Music". It could also allow them to specify parameters such as tempo, key and instrument set. There are however two downsides that I can think of. First, what kind of CPU overhead would this create? Second, you may never hear the same music twice, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. What does everyone think? Feel free to flame me if you don't like it, I am a big boy and can take it. (I think...) BTW, here is a midi I made quite a few years ago when I played a lot of Hexen. http://members.xoom.com/hiput/cave.mid 0 Share this post Link to post
