Dima Posted October 17, 2000 Daikatana was so hotly ancipated and while it is a good game it is not what people expected it to be! I just hope Doom 3 won't turn out to be another Daikatana! With John Carmack controlling it it is highly unlikely! 0 Share this post Link to post
deadnail Posted October 17, 2000 I wasn't anticipating Daikatana. I did the same trick I did with Half-Life. I read about Half-Life while it was still under development, so I refused to read anything on it until I bought it and played through it. EVERYTHING was a great surprise, right up to the final duel in Xen. So I played Daikatana with an unbaised slate. I can firmly state that the game sucks, I hate it, and that Romero should be duct taped to the floor in a daycare center. The levels aren't as good as HL, scratch that, the levels are designed like they're for Doom 2. The enemies have poor ai. The graphics were a small disappointment. They just didn't look right on a Voodoo 3, I'll bet the game looks a lot better running through a GeForce. The hand-drawn art that was on the menu screens was great, though, I must admit. The thing that set my hate for the game in stone was your 'partner' ai. They were just so stupid they either suicided into a dangerous area or ran in front of you while you were shooting. Four years and that's the best they could do? It's sad. 0 Share this post Link to post
Zaldron Posted October 17, 2000 4 years with 3 lame teams. Who could work under those conditions? Daikatana was supposed to be released in 8 months. But they waited a little more to use Q2 engine. Then things get rough for Romero. There´s an article on Gamespot about ION biography buried somewhere. I don´t know if it survived the 2 upgrades of the site. About D3. The only good way to escape from the hype-effect is making a press blackout (but then we will suffer). The game´s never going to be technollogicaly and artisticly old, neither the AI. The content and gameplay itself are the main problems for iD. Let´s hope things go right from the beggining. 0 Share this post Link to post
Malum Archon Posted October 17, 2000 I doubt Carmack will let Doom 3 become a bad game, and I never had any interest in Daikatana anyway, I was looking more forward to Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 when I first heard of it, and also Duke Forever which still isnt out. Face it, even if its a poor game with not so good graphics (highly unlikely) you'll all still buy it :) 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted October 21, 2000 No way! I'm going to be highly critical of it. If it isn't up to my standard in gameplay, judging by reviews, then no way! If there's too much super-realistic violence, I won't buy it! Don't think for a second I'm being sarcastic! 0 Share this post Link to post
