If you could provide your desktop specifications, that would be helpful. To determine those specifications download this utility known as HWInfo (64-bit version, please):

http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

Then I want you to screen-shot the information that pops up and post it here; it'll tell me what CPU & GPU you have along with how much memory and what type of memory. It will also tell me what motherboard you have so I can look into potential upgrade paths for you if needed.

We'll get your desktop up and running for DOOM.

I highly doubt my desktop is any better suited. Though, it sort of plays Battlefront, and plays Rage very well. But I'm guessing Doom is afar cry from those. The whole thing needs a tune up though, and probably needs to be cleaned too.

But here's that screenshot:

The graphics card is the only part really lacking.

The i7 3770 at 3.9ghz and 12 gigs of ram, as far as CPU and memory is concerned, is enough to play any game on the market now and probably for at least another year or two.

Thank you.

The good news is that, as ReFracture says, your CPU is excellent and you have a heft amount of system RAM. Yay!

The bad news is that your graphics card is vastly under-powered (it burns my blood to see companies like Acer pair excellent CPUs with GPUs like that). This means that you just need to buy a new GPU and plug it in.

Where things get a little tricky is in determining what GPU the system can use. My Google-Fu reveals that the power supply in your system is a 500W unit with one PCIe connector available (http://community.acer.com/t5/2014-Archives/Re-GTX660-in-Acer-Predator-AG3620-UR308-quot-no-signal-quot/td-p/55657).

Your best bet is to buy an NVIDIA GTX 960 (which only requires a single PCIe connector):

EDIT: Go with this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487154&cm_re=gtx_960-_-14-487-154-_-Product

With this card, your system should play Doom 2016 and pretty much any other modern PC game very nicely.

What my limited knowledge sort of figured. I'll look into that GPU then. Thanks, man.

Cool stuff. Let us know what you ultimately end up doing!

720p here I am again! lol, I got the Witcher 3 and Dying Light both playing at 30+fps and the 660 was the minimum. IT CAN BE DONE!!! Just have to wait to get in there and feel things out. I push for highest texture quality possible with medium low shadows, (1024 resolution), with all post processing and effects off. Shadows cause the largest fps consumption, then post processing and sfx... Texture quality generally causes the least, and having those on high/ultra with a 2gb gpu is usually fine.

I'm picking up a 1080p 144hz screen soon.. Looking at eGPU's too, not sure if I'll have one before I beat Doom in 720p@30fps. :/

I would suggest holding off on that screen and save it for pc parts (or a new laptop)

Will I be able to run the game?

You should be good, GTX 580 is ~1/2 the speed of a GTX 970. You're not going to max it out, but you should be able to get a decent experience.

I would recommend a GPU upgrade if you can afford it/care about graphics quality. If you're interested, let me know how much you're willing to spend and I'll offer up a recommendation.

Let's just say that I'm interested and what do you recommend and how much does it cost? I'll maybe look into it but if I can't afford it, then I'll stick to what I have.

I would recommend purchase of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 in your case. Here's the cheapest one I could find on Newegg ($310):

Anything less and I would honestly just stick it out with the GTX 580 until new GPUs from both AMD and NVIDIA hit the market with much better performance for the $ at some point down the line. At that time we can revisit, if the GTX 970 is not an option now.

All of my specs meet the recommended requirements, but i'm only slightly concerned about my graphics card. It's a MSI GeForce GTX 950, 2GB. Should it be fine?

Yes!

GTX 950 is above min-spec, you should be able to run the game fine. The GTX 950 is about the same speed as the GTX 760. The 760, in turn, is about ~25% faster than the GTX 660.

I am still a bit concerned the final reqs will be higher. The ones that we've got are literally for one MP map.

IMO, the Alpha requirements seem kinda high to me...I think they'll be the same or even lower come final release.

Bethesda needs id Software to start making it some money, and alienating a large part of the PC installed base with too-high requirements is just plain dumb.

You can run the game, but definitely not on max settings - something between low and medium I guess

I hope so. But then again, Remedy recommends 980Ti for Ultra in Quantum Break so you never know.

By the way, I don't know if that breaks the NDA but does DOOM4 (based on Alpha) have any quality settings? RAGE had none. And the reqs have this weird 720p-min/1080p-rec thingy that I've never seen before.

With a 980 Ti as recommended, the damn game better look amazing.

I'm wondering if I'd be able to run this... mainly because I bought a hewlett packard PC which more or less is really limited in easy upgrades in the graphics card department.

More or less, my specs are as follows.

Processor: Intel i7-4770 at 3.50 GHz, 4 cores.
RAM: 32 GBs
And my achille's heel and the only reason I'm making this post: the Nvidia Geforce GT 640, which seems to be even lower in spec than the GTX 660, which is apparently the bare minimum.

It's annoying, because I really want to play DOOM, and I'd rather play it on PC than anything else, but I don't know if my graphics card will even be able to run it despite my other components being more than competent enough.

Thanks for your time!

Hi bloodshoots,

The good news is that the CPU in your system is fantastic and 32GB of RAM is great!

The problem as you've noted is the GT 640...this is quite a weak GPU, unfortunately :(

Now it's not all doom and gloom, though. You can upgrade that GPU with something that can play DOOM well for as little as $150 in the form of a GTX 950. If you have about $200 to spend, you can get the GTX 960 which should get you to "recommended" specifications.

Here's the cheapest GTX 950 I could find on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127904&cm_re=gtx_950-_-14-127-904-_-Product ($150; $120 after $30 MIR).

Thanks a ton for the info! The sad thing is, I can't upgrade it. I've got an HP that more or less doesn't have the power or ports to upgrade to anything higher, and if I try to, I void my warranty and I'd have to rewrite the BIOS. Sadly, the graphics card is the root of a bigger problem that'll involve sinking a lot more money than I'm able to right now. Still, at least I don't have to buy RAM or a new processor, but the rest of the computer will have to be replaced, heh.

Was a shot in the dark, but thanks anyway!

System requirements given in Doom website are wrong, here are the real ones :

RAM : At least 2GBs
CPU : Intel Core i3
GPU : ATI Saphire HD7700 Series and above

Don't ask me how i got this ..

I've the following spec:

Core i5 3470 clocked at 3.8 GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Mainboard Rev 1.1
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Western Digital Blue 1TB
Sapphire HD 7950 Dual-X 3GB
Philips 191EL 19" LED

The game runs at a constant 60 FPS with very little texture pop in, I'll have to try 1440p later.

I would assume official requirements would list equivalent AMD processors and NVIDIA GPUs?
