Devil Daggers - High Score Thread!

Recommended Posts

Game looks like a brief diversion. Cool art style, and it looks fun to shoot those monsters. But for that money, I could probably buy a roast beef sandwich that would last longer than my attention span for a game like this.

For that money you could buy an actual game...

Needs level design.

Yeah really. The monsters and combat look fun, so it would be worthy to build a game world around it. It still could be focussed on arena battles like Serious Sam, but at least include some environment variety and sense of progress.

Good job reviving a thread for the sake of repeating what was already said with no additional value. Enjoy your +1 to your post count.

I love the look of this game and I hope this kinda pseudo-PSX style takes off, but I'm not about to go spending the price of a day's lunch and dinner on an arena shooter.

It's funny how that price is of such contention. I think while yes, it could be Lunch/dinner for one day, I'd spend a lot more time enjoying that £5 than I would elsewhere. But again, to each their own.

I also couldn't agree more about how awesome it would be for the PSX-style graphics to kick off. That was, for me, the best gaming generation. When you had a comfortable mix between the visuals and gameplay - it mattered, but not that much. :)

To be fair, I don't have a lot of wiggle room on grocery money. That five bucks could mean I have to skip a meal or two.

I'd have to object and say that it was also an era of bad framerates and janky controls, both camera and otherwise. I love the grainy, wobbly look of the PSX and grew up with Spyro and ilk but I'd say the PS2 was a more solid generation all around.

Oddly enough I never had any real issue with framerates. No, the real problem was the lack of a Z-buffer which is why textures were so wobbly. Get rid of that and it looks great. I prefer the lower-res, grainy textures of yesteryear.

I was once in that situation, I do understand. I guess I still valued entertainment higher than I should have)! :P

That said, I do recall one month where my bills were higher than I could anticipate, and had to live two weeks of a month eating nothing but tesco's 20p noodles... That was horribly unhealthy, and dull. (Image)

Fair points, especially so on the controls front; I guess it was when nobody knew what a good control scheme was/could be, I mean heck, look at the N64 controller's shape!

But regarding the games themselves, most of the games that I have any desire to replay are on the PSX/N64. There are some brilliant games on the PS2/GameCube/Xbox - Nobody can deny that, but on a personal level, the PSX is easily the most memorable for me. :)

I kept trying to play, but I'v not slept yet and my brain just cannot keep up, learning alot of cool technueqes, If you fire a stream of daggers to the right side of a spawner, sweep left as they come out then sweep right quit fluently I'm consistantly wipeing out these swarms in one volly. the skulls move based on where you shoot. it's like a big crazy puppet game.

Good stuff! I must admit that this game becomes far more strategic than I expected. Have you managed to take out any spawners before they spawn anything?

It's pretty fun when that happens, even though it's partially to your disadvantage (No Red Gem from the big skulls!)

That's very impressive, If I remember correctly back when we were playing this that would have landed you in the top ten, or at least very close to. As for beating it, I'm trying to get back into my tetris groove again so I don't have much time to put into devils daggers, that and I try to play the new doom when I can XD.

Make that 307.3190!

However, that score ain't what it used to be. I'm 801th place right now. That's out of over 51 thousand players though, in my defense. My goal is to "beat" the game by surviving for 500 seconds and unlocking the game's one and only achievement. There are only 11 people in the world who have done that so far. Current top score is over 900 seconds btw.
