Im also totally new about making wads and maps (also programming) and im totally new about this community, so i want to know everything, good or bad, i would be thankful if you let me know about it -Some weird texture choices and they're unaligned. -Wad seems mostly flat, without height variations. -Cyberdemon and Spider mastermind in first level is questionable too. Unless you provide secret teleporters to telefrag them like in Ultimate Doom e4m2 or in Ancient Aliens map01. You need play/analyse more good wads and do more experiments. I know, it's always fun and exciting to do first map. Fix things while you can and you'll be good. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

So do you mean by making a secret telefrag in cyberdemon and blocking it to move so it's more possible to telefrag it and making more dimensions to my map so would be look less flat, aditional to choose better textures in places is it? I think i can do that, i will need just a little more time to understanding more about mapping. Also, thank you very much for the review! i will upload the wad soon so you will take a better look at it! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Also, thank you very much for the review! i will upload the wad soon so you will take a better look at it! Check both mentioned maps in builder of your choice and check how they made it. Add some height variations in some places. Texture problems are easy to fix("a" and "shift+a" for autoalignments, L-lower upegged, U- upper unpegged if stuff doesn't fix). If you need help or quick private test, drop pm and I'll gladly help you. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Phade102 Posted June 30, 2017 @Mikami41 Do remember that a persons first wad usually isn't going to be amazing, because you haven't found what you excel at in terms of mapping yet. It took me over 50 failed maps to even get to a tolerable level of mapping today, and thats still not amazing. We need more new mappers, do definitely keep it up (Different height variations is still something I have trouble with.) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That's why we help newbies in the first place ;) I'm mapping two years already and person yesterday still pointed me my errors in map. I'm going to fix them before it's too late ;) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

All new mappers can have some inspiration from some wads or authors. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Tango Posted July 8, 2017 @ukiro those textures look gorgeous and the environments look awesome :D are you making these textures specifically for a mapset or just for a standalone texture pack? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ukiro Posted July 8, 2017 Who knows. Maybe it'll just be a texture pack or maybe someone will finish some maps and we make a small pack. Or maybe there will be 5 megawads dropping at once with the texture. (I can dream, can't I?) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks and not really, this is more related to what i have as explanation for the Tamers Of The Dark in the mod's story, also to break a bit from the overused gorilla proportions (short legs, long arms). 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted July 9, 2017 I've been slacking off recently on the following projects: Maps of Chaos Overkill (Namely MAP27-MAP30 and E3M3-E3M8 need more work) "Office Complex" (working title) Hellbrary II Maps of Inebriation (at MAP02) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Job Posted July 9, 2017 I'm working on a map for the E1M5 slot that is a mishmash of E1 and E2 styles, with perhaps a dash of Doom 2 in it. But mostly, I'm trying to channel my inner Sandy Peterson. The only reason I went with the E1M5 slot is because I dig the music and was too lazy to put it in E1M1 and swap the track. Maybe 40-50% done. It probably won't blow the mapping world wide open, but hopefully it's a fun, nostalgic trip for you and good practice for me. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheOrganGrinder Posted July 9, 2017 "I like the music track" is never a bad reason to use the E1M5 slot. I'm looking forward to what you might come up with! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

It only pisses off the 1% anyway, I never see how it's offensive to use a certain slot because you want certain music or a specific sky. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's so interesting to see how many different styles of mapping there is. Even if it's not something that's meant for gameplay per se. i like love that photo realistic looking one. It'd be funny to be walking around that. Come to a mirror and then see Doom guy. Edited July 9, 2017 by everennui their-ir+er 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

SaladBadger Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) I fucking hated the original opening for Moonfall, so I've been redesigning the entirety of the opening from scratch. Unlike Moonsong, which was mostly a closed map with a few big areas, Moon's call, an attempt at open maps that just ended up being more about a small number of little arenas, and my DUMP 3 map, somewhere sort of in between, definitely skewed in the direction of small rooms here and there, I'm trying a much more open approach to this map. I have no idea if I'll actually pull it off or not, at the moment, but I'm liking this opening at least. Edited July 9, 2017 by InsanityBringer 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TootsyBowl Posted July 10, 2017 I'm still quite new to mapping, so I decided to make a few edits to Glaice's Maps of Chaos KDITD maps so that they link together better. Yup, an edit of an edit. No offense, Glaice, but I found the teleporters the players start on to be a rather cheap fix to how the maps are only loosely connected. It goes from simply slapping elevators on the end of the map to adding whole new sections, like train stations at the end of E1M3 and the beginning of E1M4. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
