Koko Ricky Posted March 13, 2016 Not sure what to think at the moment. I'm watching the old E3 footage again and I've noticed something odd. In the UAC levels, some of the possessed just stand there and shoot at you as though they're programmed to do nothing else. I didn't really see much in the way of defense maneuvers. However, in the Hell footage, the hell knights were very aggressive and I was particularly thrilled when I realized that one of them climbed up to higher ground to come after the player, which was great! At the same time, the campaign trailer shows a cacodemon standing around looking dumb, which might have been intentional so they could line up the glory kills, since several of them are used as transitions. Overall, I'm expecting some pretty aggressive behavior, nothing spectacular, but definitely something that will keep up us on our toes. Has anyone noticed anything worth mentioning about AI? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
snapshot Posted March 13, 2016 I think i saw revenants flying and shooting lazers too, not only rockets . 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AirRaid Posted March 13, 2016 The possessed have been described as "fodder", they'll probably only have basic AI and not be hugely aggressive. I would imagine the larger demons will be a lot more aggressive, probably with more advanced movement than the lower end guys. Your comment about "might have been intentional to line up glory kills" is probably accurate though. Gotta get those sweet shots for the trailer. Obligatory reminder to take everything seen in promotional trailers with a grain of salt. As someone actively trying to put together promotional video material for a shooter, people will try a lot of little "cheaty" things to get a better shot for the "camera". 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
magma86 Posted March 13, 2016 I think its the same ai/animation quality that rage had, but a bit more tweaked and advanced. So, in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IQ4FBXg8WY totalbiscuit talks about the ai and the impressive animation. The combat starts around 22:45. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The player was shitty and had godmode one, their health never goes below 10. The playing was purposely set out as a showcase, No one would play like the did.. I mean the constant changing weapons, etc. All representative. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

id.dav Posted March 13, 2016 Ai is based on id tech 5 traversal system...since it is arenas we fight in then they just packed it with numerous traversal enteties with various awesome animations to overcome obstacles...there's nothing really special about Rage/Wolf/Doom ai, everything is controled by pathing/traversal since you are the only target then there's not much to calculate here, ai just choose the nearest available traversal point to get you. DoomGuys_Rabbit Posted March 13, 2016 E3 demos and such are all pre-scripted. When Mancubus first appears in the E3 demo, an imp attacking the player just seems to give up. It wouldn't be a good demo if the player kept dying when trying to show off mechanics and shit 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted March 13, 2016 That image of the behavioral pathways is really interesting and sheds a lot of light on what we've been observing. However, I hope we don't see a lot of instances of characters being dinguses and not really reacting. Even the original Doom maintained that sense of them always trying to find a way to attack you. Yeah, I know times were simpler back then. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
