In the First one, there's lots of yellow/orange ambient light. There's molten metal and lava everywhere, casting the entire map with a yellowish tinge. This is not a "pissfilter", or low saturation of colour in general, it's just the area of the game is casting it's own particular light.

I'm not referring to that, I'm referring to the lack of colors on the environment itself and, despite claims, the lighting isn't that yellow. The problem is that it's just very bland. That shot you showed still looks much more vibrant.

Having another look at this picture it basically confirms my theory about the Caco and the Mancubus being related (in doom 2016 ofc, not the originals). The Caco has vestigal arms and lefs, it has the same mangibles and mouth structure and cyclops eye of the mancubus.

I agree, they do share similarities. It's like they're cousins of some demonic lineage I suppose.

Actually, the monsters stand in what's almost a kind of evolutionary line.

You have the very Alien looking Mancubus, with its power armor and guns. And then the Cacodemon also looks a bit like an alien with the same bits, but it's been mutated into something a bit more grotesque, a bit more demonic. The Baron stands as something that looks far less alien, and much more like the age-old appearance of an actual Demon.

Maybe when Hell was building an army they were looking to create a diverse set of species that could incite different fears in different people. You have Aliens for those who fear the unknown, and Biblical Demons to strike fear into the many different religions in the world who're familiar with that visage.

I don't know, seems like an interesting theory to me. It's sort of like Scarecrow's fear gas.

I've always seen the demons as physical manifestations of ancient otherworldy spirits willed to action by a higher demonic force. Like an extension of the Icon of Sins will, or in the case of Doom 2016, the will of the titans.

I've always viewed them as beings from another dimension beyond our mere mortal understanding. Oh and also I view them as being Ancient Sumerian demons. Why? I kinda blame my addiction to the Evil Dead franchise. I'll just be slightly disappointed if I don't see the Necromonicon in some Doom game at some point.

KLAATU BERADA *COUGH COUGH*!

My imagination of hell is always some super corrupted ancient Babylonian/Sumerian gods, with a mix of European Pagan in there.

I guess i'm influenced by Diablo! Huh

DOOM's universe is very similar to Diablo... but you must "only" add lot of sci-fi technology.
