Xerge Posted April 2, 2016 I just noticed the new Doomguy is wearing ammo pouches around his waist, that's a really nice touch, because I think there hasn't been any other depection of Doomguy wearing those ever since his representation in the original Doom titlescreen and original sprites. I've also noticed that in the Doom 2 cover and title screen his armor has these big red circles, so I'm guessing that's where they got the inspiration for the small glowing red circles they've added on the new armor. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Though I don't understand the no-weapon limit in single-player, but the weapon-limit in multiplayer.... unless they can't implement something as simple as a weapon wheel in multiplayer... =P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xerge Posted April 2, 2016 Modern gamers seem to care too much about "leveling up" in order to "unlock new and more powerful stuff". Why? I have no idea. I guess they care too much about feeling they are making progress or something, so making all the weapons available from the start kinda defeats that porpuse. I personally couldn't care less about leveling up, all I want is some free-for-all mayhem, that's it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted April 2, 2016 welp, I only played a couple matches of the beta, and I'v got to say It feels very halo'y. Wich isn't something I'm mad about because that's an experience pc players have been missing out on for a very long time. as to the "random weapons on maps" those weapons are stratigically placed by the map creators and contribute to map control, which is vital to power shooters. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheMightyHeracross Posted April 2, 2016 Honestly, since people only tend to use 2 or 3 weapons in old Doom DM anyway, loadouts aren't going to affect much. I'd rather not have them- don't get me wrong- but it's really not a big deal at all. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hardcore_gamer Posted April 2, 2016 I really don't see the similarities with Halo at all other than the marine armor perhaps. The game feels more like Unreal Tournament mixed with Quake mixed with Doom. Does Halo have double jump and no weapon reloads? No? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted April 2, 2016 the clambering feels like it does in halo 5 (wich isnt bad, I like that mechanic), player speed kinda feels halo'y as well, the guns do not feel halo'y to me though. Ya the armor looks super halo like now that I'v played the beta. Quake and unreal feel much faster to me personally. I'm going to play more of the beta this weekend. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hardcore_gamer Posted April 3, 2016 Honestly I think people are just really dumb and are preemptively determined to go out of their way to attack the game for not being like the original Doom in every single way. If anything people should be fucking happy with how similar the game is to the original, with there being no reloads and monster designs FAR more similar to the original demons than we could ever have realistically hoped for. Not to mention them paying tribute to Doom's modding community with snapmap. I swear to god, nothing will make some people happy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
HellVain Posted April 3, 2016 Some people here think they're entitled just because they're hardcore fans of the classic ones and we can't do anything about it. I sometimes think that what they want is just a 3d revamp of the classic games...like the Resident evil remaster. No new changes except a few tweaks and a 3d upgrade. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ATP2555 Posted April 3, 2016 Halo's fan base is made up of people who mostly have double-digit IQ's. They believe that Halo invented the following: *The concept of a space marine *The title "Master Chief" *Guns with electronic magazine counters *Aliens who have their own guns *Green armor with a fully concealed helmet In addition, what the Halo fans don't realize is that Master Chief is not technically a space marine, since he's not part of the marine corps. He's in the navy, so he's a space sailor. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm gonna try to test my knowledge here. 1- When I first played Halo, I only thought of MC being a super soldier. 2- I think it originated from Marathon. 3- What? They can't be that dumb. 4- All aliens/enemies/demons have their own weapons. 5- Doom. Ironically, Master Chief doesn't even remotely like being in space battles/ air battles. He has that mind of a marine: ground fighting. Edit- Is Halo 5 really the "greatest hunt in gaming history?" 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The people that made Halo don't know shit about the military(then again, neither do most developers) so they want their fans to be just as dumb as them. Halo 5 isn't shit. It's just a gimmick used to attract the kids who play multiplayer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Voros Posted April 11, 2016 Take a look at what this guy wrote about Doom and Halo: CE (written in the 2000s), if haven't already read it. http://alexmax-2742.tripod.com/alexmax/id3.html The only thing that surprised me was the similarity between Halo: CE's final mission (not the escaping the ship one, but the final "offensive" mission) and Doom 2's MAP30. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh man...i never laughed like this in awhile...a for effort i guess. Looks like iy was written by some edgy guy whos bias just because doom is darker and more action oriented and halo is colorful with a design that makes it look like youre in a space movie and is focused on story. I love doom and I also love halo, if you wanna blame why everything is now linear and lack luster, blame COD, well at least now they made a decent game (Blackops 3) the original halo were pretty good. Though im not a fan of iron sights. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I agree with some of his arguments but he was just a rabid doom fan boy. He even says the Doom graphics are better than halo's ... okie dokie. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jello Posted April 12, 2016 The multiplayer does feel really close to Halo. And I loved playing mutliplayer Halo split screened, so I don't know how that's an insult. I also loved playing Doom 2 multiplayer, but it ended up being a race to the SSG. I never cared for the competition in Quake 3 Arena, but I always liked the more relaxed attitude in Doom 2, Quake, Quake 2, Halo 1 & 2, and Team Fortress Classic, and the multiplayer in Doom 2016 reminded me of that. So I won't complain. It's never going to be a massive competitive game, but it seems fine to just sit down, play, and waste an hour or two in. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

BluePineapple72 Posted April 12, 2016 I have a theory for why people compare doom and halo (it's pretty long so I'll put it in spoilers) Spoiler I think the reason that doom and halo feel so close together is because of the fluidity of both games, when you shoot people you actually feel like you attaching them and the movement fits the games respective maps perfectly instead of sporadically flying around on walls doing crazy shit. The ttk is also a thing they share instead of being like cod and being able to kill or be kill in 3 shots with a hitscan weapon The weapons for halo and doom are similar in that each one has a different effect instead of this one shoots faster and has more recoil. The enemies also have the same feeling of being unique enemies that have varying behaviors other than Russian man 420 with an AK 69, the two game's enemie behaviors promote a different gameplay other than stand here and shoot until he's dead hopefully most of this was obvious So that's my theory on why they are deemed similar, TL;DR: doom and halo share a unique style you chat find in most other generic shooters. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
