Doom Beta

I think I was getting around 80 ping, seemed perfectly fine. But I really don't know what a good ping is. I started playing Team Fortress Classic on a 33.6k modem in 1999. A good ping for me was under 500, usually around 600, up to 700. Those bastards with the 56k modems and 300-400 pings made fun of me. And then you had the Über-Elites with DSL getting like 150 to 200.

Things that are hard not to notice: There was absolutely no screen tearing in the Alpha on PS4. It tears like a motherfucker in the Beta. Lots of frozen plasma projectiles on the map. Animations are fucking up constantly. You kill a guy and he just freezes. Glory kill animations are still fucked up. (Guy performs a kill and then he just stands there in idle animation till his gun shows up. .not fluid at all) The levels of gore are the same as Alpha. And I get only 2 bars of connection max. I hope this isn't the latest build. .coz there is no time left for devs to patch this shit up. Some pluses: The controls are more fluid (I'm talking about the running stick) I think they nerfed the Revenant just a little bit. So far not very solid.

Played about 2 hours of it. Im having fun but Im not having my mind blown. SO far the MP is a solid game.

It plays like a slower Quake 3 Arena. Wish there were more opportunities for skillful play. There is potential for that. Also wish there was one more demon. We already played the Revenant in the Alpha.

MP wise, I don't think it stands a chance against Overwatch.

Best thing about it is the Infernal map. Pretty ace.

I've been watching some videos, Team Deathmatch is not really my thing, I prefer Free for All chaos, but yeah, the game looks fun, it could have a few improvements here and there (maybe movement speed should be slightly faster and the announcer just doesn't fit well to me), but I imagine it would be fun to play some Free for all matches.

By the way, I was hoping we could listen to some in-game music.

Not comparable. One's a multiplayer only class based shooter while the other is both SP and MP with a completely different playstyle. Like comparing TF2 to Halo.

Last night, i had the chance to play the beta. It's fun, i've had a blast playing it, and it's really an improvement over the last alpha. However i gotta say.... the whole "Level up to unlock X" thing is bullshit, it slows things down and it limits the player for no good reason.

Overall i feel that there's a great arena style multiplayer here, but it's buried under a lot of COD elements that are just there to apease the mainstream crowd and just dumb down things.

Despite this, i can't say that i didn't enjoyed it, and i can't wait to get home to play another couple of hours. Just wish there were other modes (Classic modes?) without this COD nonsense

I had a lot of fun with it, I can't wait for the full game


BUT, it pissed me off that there is no in game music during the multiplayer, I reeeeaally wanted that. Also the load outs were ok, but pickups would be superb

I only just got my beta key from GAME, here in the UK for preordering. I imagine other UK preorders will be getting served around now.

The Beta is really fun especially when your playing with friends, but I don't think the multiplayer community for consoles players will last too long unfortunately (hopefully I'm wrong). Here is what I like to add or change.
Things to change:
1)Have in game multiplayer music.
2)No loadouts, only weapon pickups.
3)Increase the speed just a tad.
4) Change the announcers voice to someone who doesn't sound lazy as fuck.
Then this would be my perfect game.

For some reason the announcer decides to make stupid ass pauses in his words like he is having brain spasms. I was fine with the alpha one, shit dude I'll be fine with anything other than this stuttering robot dude, hell give me betruger or something I don't care

Haha I too noticed his crazy ass stuttering sometimes. I did also notice there seemed to be multiple takes of his lines that made it seem a bit more dynamic and alive than the same recording over and over.

Main complaint still is movement speed. I get frustrated being stuck in one speed the entire time and it's just a bit too slow. I feel the haste power up makes the movement feel right. Maybe a pinch too fast, but I'd prefer it over the normal speed.

Other than that, in game music would be nice. It does start up sometimes when things happen. Similar to the new battlefront game but happens less. It's VERY fun to play which is what I do care about. And infernal is one hell of a MP map!

Oh and a classic mode with weapon pickups would be more than welcome :)

Regarding the game's appearance, one small detail that I don't approve: I guess they've used blue and green pickups inspired by the classic health and armor bonus pickups, the problem I have with these is that I think they look too saturated bright here, making them look too "friendly" or "happy" which would be fine if the whole game wasn't about violence, gore, demons and hell, they just don't fit that well with the rest of the game's appearance and Hellish, violent and gory themes.

I wouldn't mind if they've used a less saturated and a bit darker blue and green for these items and I think they should.

The thing that's most disappointing about the movement is that the more recent and popular console FPS's, like Titanfall, actually have more interesting systems in place. So it's not a mere "consolization" issue so much as it's a lack of creativity on the part of the developer.

Yeah, it's not very good. Also runs like crap on my system (6700K + 2x 980 Ti). They need to optimize this game & include support for multi-GPU...

Don't get these complaints.

Game is crack. The only reason I stopped playing it tonight is because all the servers appear/seem to be empty for some reason, probably because it's late and because of the limited player count as a result of the fact that this beta isn't open.

Will play even more of it tomorrow.

The movement is PERFECT. It's like classic Doom and Metroid Prime had a really bloody baby.

The guns are all really punchy and satisfying, and the glory kills don't break up the pace at all.

I freaking love this. I think I might actually preorder now, something I'm almost universally against doing.
