Fun aside: they basically created a sandbox story which fits every game they ever made (maybe excluding Rage and to some degree the Strogg universe). I like it :)

In the latest MP customization video, there is a very medieval looking armor (and kind of looks like the dude from Team Arena), I wonder if it's a variation of Doomslayer's old armor.

Now that you mention it, there´s a lot of templar references over the game, and not just in the leaked info, but also the multiplayer and SP that has been shown to us, and all seems to connect.

In the 14th century, the Templars worshiped a deity called Baphomet (yep, that Baphomet), which was the representation of the sum of the total universe, thus his appearance. He was later referenced with satanism.

It is interesting to notice that the Icon of sin has been referred to as Baphomet in the final Doom manual, and the UAC in the new Doom, are Hell´s (including Icon of sin´s) worshipers.

It could be that the Templar order could still be alive (Assassin´s creed style, minus animus), as the UAC, this is further proved by the multiplayer armors that directly reference the order.

Or maybe the UAC is not a modern Templar order, but Argent D´nur could have something to do with them. Remember the multiple swords scattered throughout the plains of hell in the E3 demo.

This is EXACTLY what i thought right when I saw it. The lore talks about the ancient armor donned by the DoomSlayer...I don't think it's that big of a stretch!

the more i think about this entire backstory thing the more foreseeable it becomes for ranger from quake to actually turn out as an actual existing character that might tie into this whole demon slaying motif somewhere.

that the whole 'inter dimensional travel' thingie is a confirmed, official device plot in the story isn't helping at all either

Yes, apparently Hell has this shitty habit of invading worlds across different dimensions, defeats the local population, massacres them all, swallows the world whole and incorporates the dead in its armies as well as reengineering the technology captured. See case in point: Argent D'Nur.

So i've seen some theories that this DoomSlayer's story is a prequel to Doom 1...I don't see how that could be a possibility because DoomGuy from Doom 1 is just a marine who is stationed on Mars right? What could the connection be between DoomSlayer and DoomGuy? Could it be that once DoomSlayer is awaken in Doom 2016, does he then become a full time Marine leading up to the first game? If that's the case you would think that DoomGuy/Marine would be revered as God among men in Doom1. Buuuut, I'm sure in '92 they weren't thinking about all of this :)

I'm guessing it's the same old Doomguy from Doom 1, 2, and 64.... he just suddenly got posted back on reassignment after shit hit the fan, and now he has to revisit Phobos, Deimos, Hell, Earth, all of the locations he's been to all over again...

Who the fuck is Doomslayer? I mean I know about Doomguy... but Doomslayer sounds like some Chinese knockoff of Doomguy....

Maybe the doomguy is the next Hell Slayer (doomslayer sounds wierd to me so ill just call him hell slayer), you know passing on the torch? Who knows maybe the first dead "marine" we see on knee deep in the deadñ is the hell slayer himself who passed on the torch of hell's worst nightmare to a survivor of the phobos anomaly..and well..history repeats itself woth the fihgt agains the mastermind, the icon, and the mother demon which ends up with the new hell slayer staying in hell for good. I mean this is a reboot of the seires of course.

Is it weird that the only part of this game I kind of don't want to be spoiled in is the story? It isn't even a focal point of the game, but I'm just such a huge sucker for lore and worldbuilding I've avoided this thread until now. Also, I'd like to echo the talk of how close this sounds to Demon's Souls'/Dark Souls 2's story, and I raise you with this old thing:
