Voros Posted April 22, 2016 ChickenOrBeef said:I never said that. Of course all of the single-player areas won't be available in SnapMap. That doesn't mean there can't be a bunch of different cavernous Hell modules that can be connected with doors, almost like creating a new Elder Scrolls cave. As for the leaks, just go to r/Doomleaks and look for the SnapMap threads. I was only making a point. Just stating that Hell modules would need more work to actually be useful and yet fitting in a SnapMap creation. Thanks to both of you for the Reddit leak stuff page. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Phobos is a satellite.... and if you remember back in Doom 1 there was the mountains and fog and stuff in Episode 1 Knee Deep in the Dead and it was awesome! =D Phobos got terraformed and stuff so you know, yeah.... so did Deimos, but it went to hell in a handbasket (pun intended.) I agree, the atmosphere will definitely be nailed when it comes to Hell and the labs. Snapmap? Well, we don't know what the fuck is up with SnapMap.... if I can recreate all of Episode 1, 2, 3, and 4 in SnapMap I'll be happy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

At least that's what it looks like. Spoiler All the important structures are on Mars. The Argent Tower, Lazarus Labs, VEGA server farm. While there is a single - and I mean a SINGLE - string "Phobos" in the game ressources, that's it. Current leaks talk about 17 levels plus 3 (maybe secret, maybe optional). Regarding the story and how much will also take place at the great steppe in hell, and how much clearly (regarding the level names) takes place on Mars, I guess we won't see much of Phobos and Deimos. Then again, to be honest, I don't care at all how beautiful (or not) the sky will be which we get to see...I played Doom 3 at least six or seven times, but if you'd ask me what the sky looked like during the outdoor scenes all I could say is "uhm....well....brown"...because I never payed attention to it while killing stuff :) The beautiful bryce-like skyboxes of Doom were cool, but I can live without them...man, there is a huge, glowing portal to hell in the sky...ain't that nothing? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That is something.... but I have a feeling there's more than 20 levels and they are just keeping pretty quiet about it.... for all we know the game could take place on Phobos and Deimos they are just keeping it under wraps... I mean yeah leaks and all that, so? It's leaks. It doesn't mean it's the full game. =P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I mean it is id Software we are talking about... they probably saw what happened to VALVE and decided "What if we plant fake audio logs to mislead hackers and people who go into our code? XD" And that's probably what they did knowing them. =P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrGlide Posted April 23, 2016 ModernAristocrat said:#1 "Now to the point: let's start a discussion about modding the code to what we (the hardcore/enthusiasts/loyalists) were hoping for. The bulk of the code should provide a lot to work with. Our work would be focused on altering the core mechanics, gameplay speed, a little work on the weapons, and maybe some level design." #2 Is anyone interested in being a part of a project like this? I run a startup, so I don't have anywhere near the time or coding skills to do this alone. Let's show Bethesda how Doom is supposed to be! 1. ya I mean why don't we just rebuild doom in idtech 5? Hell I bet we could copy and paste most of it right? 2. I read this statement as"who wants to do this insaine and daunting task while I cheer you on and bitch if I don't like it"Doom64guy6 said:Which is why you are better off buying the rights to doom... you do realise that the doom franchise is easily worth more then all of our wages on this site combined right?Voros said:PS-at least get Romero for level design.won't ever happen, Jon could make a new franchise (as we think he might be doing now) and make more money then bethesda is willing to pay him for working on doom. If it was going to happen it would have been so. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BloodReyvyn Posted April 23, 2016 Nah, modifying the engine is way more difficult than you think. What you proposed here is basically creating a classic Doom-themed total conversion mod. I was entertaining the idea of creating an homage to Knee Deep in the Dead in UE4 with classic gameplay, super high-res sprites, and higher-quality sounds... But I just don't have the time these days for a project that massive. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Bob: We recorded all those false audio logs to troll the doom fans who will surely datamine the alpha ressources because our devs will surely forget to take out the singleplayer stuff. It cost quite some money, but I can't wait to see the look on their faces! Boss: Bob, see me at my office after this meeting. We need to...talk... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Though at the same time, I just keep picturing that there's false audio logs meant to mislead us, and the actual audio logs that will be shipped with the game. =P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
sheridan Posted April 23, 2016 OP, you are mistaken on two points: A) we will not have access to any source code or advanced modding tools, ergo, we could not "change the game to our liking" even if we wanted to B) even if we did have said tools, nobody would want to follow the leadership of someone who does not even know how to program himself (lol) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
