When I first started really playing it as a teenager (this was 10-15 years ago), and some of those levels were freaky the first time through. E1M5, especially with its background music. Probably didn't help that SNES Doom monsters are always facing you. Around the same time, I tried the shareware, and I couldn't figure out how to get the music playing. Comparing it to hearing the music on the SNES, I found that levels like E1M4 were more tense when all you hear most of the time are alert demons looking for you (and don't get me started on that green maze in that level). Halls of the Damned, E2M6, was freaky, and honestly I still get a rush of adrenaline entering the darker areas whenever I play it. And I remember seeing a forum post on GameFAQs back then where a guy was halfway through the first game and he said it was scaring him like crazy. He asked if it was going to get worse, and people told him that yes it was, and that he should probably stay away from Doom 3. So yeah, I think Doom's still scary when you haven't played it again and again like the most of us here. EDITEnforcer said:.And what's the deal with old school Doom fans lately? LittleBurger Posted April 28, 2016 dsm said:It is perfectly possible to have been a fan of the original PC Doom, then later falling in love with Doom 64, because it had a darker colour scheme (and it being OP's preference), and then even later liking Doom 3's colour scheme for similar reasons. I don't agree with OP on this point because I'm primarily a fan of original PC Doom and it was more vibrant than Doom 64 and Doom 3. The new Doom captures classic PC Doom's vibrancy very well I think (I also think it manages to still be dark and gritty enough to match the Hell invasion theme), but I can still respect his opinion even if I don't agree with him. I recommend you try and do the same, and maybe people will be more willing to respect you as well. I like the aesthetic of Doom 4 in that it looks sort of like a mix of some original doom games along with some doom 3. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Use Posted April 28, 2016 It does remind me of Doom3, I like that about it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted April 28, 2016 Been a fan of Doom since 1993 and I've got to say that I am blown away by what we've seen so far. I am thrilled that Doom lives on. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
