Just how much slower is it compared to the original?

Another point with the ROTT speeds is that it's instantaneous and stiff. You move fast, but the moment you let go, all that speed stops existing, there's no momentum except in the air, and you have so much air control that it's all too easy to over-sensitively fling yourself off a bouncepad through the air and straight into a pit or trap. The original Doom had momentum build-up, however brief, and momentum die-off, to the point that mappers can even make it so aspects of the environment can alter your momentum on surfaces.

Doom '16 seems to be the 'no momentum' route but without the unmanageable speeds of ROTT '13, not to mention that your jumps don't have much air control so you're dedicated almost as much as Simon Belmont to that leap. Which is honestly a much better way to go about it when it comes to platforming when combined with a clamber, since you don't want to accidentally hold a little too left mid-jump and fling yourself to your doom like it's Sonic '06.

While that would help with platforming, I'd still go for better mobility in the air. Either having the second jump being able to push you farther into the direction you want it to (maybe some sort of dash something), or something similar.

We shan't speak of Sonic '06 on here.... that game is cursed.... evil even.

To purify this forum we must recite the following game names.

Xenoblade Chronicles, Majora's Mask, Earthbound, Doom, Diablo (1996), Minecraft, and oh wait I already stated Majora's Mask....

Anyway, back on-topic.... I just hope the jumping is a damn-sight better than some other games I've played recently.

I wouldn't mind air control, especially if the thruster-enabled second jump could change your direction rather than just get you a little extra horizontal distance. But for games with platforming, especially shooters, i'd rather have faith in jump consistency than fling myself every other direction. But that's just personal taste at least.

There's a rune that allows for that.

Good to know it's an optional thing I can earn and activate if I need the combat advantage.

You had big abstract open spaces too move about in Classic. That is why you were so fast. It would not only look stupid in this new doom game (or any modern game) to run 50mph, but it would probably be much harder.

To be fair, I really don't care if running super fast "looks stupid in any modern game" (which I disagree with anyway, it's just a matter of doing it with style) because we shouldn't be basing how much fun we have solely on how a thing looks, it should be based on how enjoyable gameplay is.

With all of that said, I think the new Doom looks quite good, I just find the idea that something fun is against the rules "because visuals" to be absolutely absurd. That mentality has probably stifled many fun ideas over the years.

Yeah, it felt...kind of strange.

Hey guys, I made a comparison using youtube doubler. And from What I've observed the speed is practically the same on both games. And lets also not forget you can upgrade doomslayer's speed in-game too.

You should hav eused the part where he goes after the yellow keycard secret too. That way I could show the haters the game is also nonlinear.

Since we're talking about ROTT, I'll put In my two cents.

ROTT was pretty good, at least until I saw DOOM 2016, and you guys mentioned the speed of It all, then I start realizing how shitty the animations looked with the fact that everything Is Instantly fast, Including when you shot a weapon.

And plus, now I've noticed that the enemies just STAND THERE hit scanning you when you're running, what, a 100mph? And now It just feels weird to the point of It giving me a headache, unlike DOOM 2016, which plays things fast, but nice and smooth, with the weapon animations and such being smooth. Everything feels right here.

Then again, we're talking about a Independent (correct me If I'm wrong) remake, that's WAY too close to the original. But I just wanted to put that out there.
